Drinking...would you pass up an opportunity?

It's crazy. I'd much rather they scrapped all refreshments on flights less than 2 hours and reduced the price by a tenner.

Never understood why alcohol is served at that time in the morning, there was also a chance they had been drinking in the airport bar before take off! I would not scrap all refreshments on short flights - on an early morning flight I am usually desperate for coffee - lots of coffee!

Don't know what the need to have alcohol on a flight is all about at any time apart from money for the airline. Refreshments ok but surely going without alcohol for a few hours isn't the end of the World.

I think it's a youth thing. When you get older you realise water is much better for you when flying. When you're young you don't care, you're on hols therefore you must have alcohol.

I must say I do love getting that little bottle of wine on a flight. It signals the start of my holiday, and the relaxing of rules. But I wouldn't fancy one so early. I know it's always 5 o'clock somewhere, but even so...

If it was for a swift black coffee then no I wouldn't pass up the opportunity. (I don't think the urge for alcohol is just a youth thing Smithy. When we go on our oldies coach trips the majority seem to opt for something alcoholic at every opportunity. With us it is the aforementioned coffee or Bovril).

We came home from Spain on aflight that was full of drunk rugby supporters ,it was only when we hit really bad turbulence we realised these big brave men were frightened of flying and the alcohol helped their fears.Although some still wanted to cry and hold hands with any passing stranger that was willing .They had been drinking before the morning flight and as they left the plane one after another vowed NEVER to fly again

I'll usually try and fit a coffee in whenever I get the chance. Flying to Scotland, I used to quickly munch a sandwich and a coffee! It was part of my routine. Alcohol though? Ugh!

Many years ago I was served breakfast on a Balkan flight by a stewardess who was built like an.Olympic shot putter. She asked me very aggressively if I would like orange or vodka with my breakfast. It was about 6am!

Hubby and I were never what you`d call drinkers, but we did indulge ourselves once on a morning flight, we ordered champagne with our breakfast. It felt really decadent!

Given all the current publicity about passengers being drunk on planes you would think the sake of alcohol would be restricted. Airlines never miss an opportunity to make money then blame everyone else when there are problems.

now I do like a bucks fizz with breakfast ,sometimes for no reason at all other than a bottle in the fridge.When we have friends to stay its always on the breakfast table .I dont really drink at all though ,only if we have people in or we 're out for dinner and then its two maximum ,any more and I'm ill .

Bucks Fizz is lovely especially with a hotel breakfast ! I don't understand the need to tank up in the airport bar before flying. If long haul, a G&T on the flight can be nice as you settle in for a long day/night but that's it for me!

We don't fly now but when on an evening flight we would always have a G&T and a small bottle of wine to wash down the airline food. It was either the start or the end of the holiday.
Once when coming back solo on the train, from a funeral, I was tempted to have a G&T but had to settle for coffee as the trolley had run out of ice. I have absolutely no shame.?

These women were on a short flight from Bristol to Newcastle! Hardly the start of an exotic holiday! The vodka loosened the tongue of one of them and we had the story of her life in loud, strident tones for the duration of the flight. Her companion couldn't get a word in edgeways!

I love a drink whilst flying, and really at any time day or night. OH is a retired BA pilot and will only have a drink on a long haul flight. We live in Spain and I often pop back to the UK on my own. I look forward to my G&T and a packet of peanuts.

Another time, on the same journey, two other women flying from Bristol to Newcastle ordered and consumed two bottles of white wine each! They were disappointed that there was no rose` but bravely made do. The trolley doesn't come out till the seatbelt signs go off so they had just over half an hour to neck that quantity!

I'm not setting myself up as the airborne drinks police, by the way. These women were all sat next to me so I didn't go looking for them. I'm not judging them really. It's entirely their choice. I just find it amazing. I'd be rolling in the aisle with that quantity in a pressurised cabin ?

Even before boarding the plane at breakfast time, some have been drinking at the airport. Just because they can!
