Amazon Echo v Dot

I have had my Echo for less than a week and already I cannot get it to work- it seems so delicate. Luckily the electrician is returning next week so he can sort it and then I will move it to a place where the cleaner cannot get her hands on it!

I would not have been able to set it up as I am technologically challenged. It needs a wifi connection and that was beyond me. My electrician had an Echo at home so that was half the battle.

Child friendly? I do not think so. My cleaner I imagine would have moved it to clean underneath and not a sound since.

Read up the pros and cons of the larger and smaller models. I was under the impression that one would have an Echo in the main room and a Dot upstairs but one does not need a Dot as well if one has a Smart phone.

We have a dot bought as a present. Works ok DH set it up. Plays any music you ask it to, tells you the weather gives answers to maths questions. Not had it for long so not made much use of it yet. We get enough volume sound wise from the dot I think the echo has bigger speakers.

I have had to ask the Echo to increase the sound of music because it really was very low. It carried out my instructions.

What I do not understand is that I am a member of Amazon Prime but I would have to pay £3.99 a month to have unlimited music.

DH bought us an Echo Dot. I set it up yesterday. It was a riddle. All you do is plug it in and use the Alexa app to install "skills". So far I've enabled Radioplayer, and Jamie Oliver recipes. This morning I enabled something called "the magic door". It's an interactive adventure game, I haven't tried it yet though. It is to keep me entertained doing boring things like ironing. There are plenty of YouTube videos of the setup procedure if you are unsure.
I've had Echo Dot for all of two days, but love Alexa already.

No it wasn't! It was a doddle to set up!??

Beauty of the Dot is that you can move it from room to room . It has good volume, but my DS is going to bring me a Bluetooth speaker that he doesn't use. That will make the sound quality for music even better. I listen to Classic FM while in the kitchen.
As Alexa to speak like Yoda!??

These days can't be bothered to sort a cd out, just say Alexa play songs by Bette Midler and away it goes, and you can do it with a drink in your hand.

Charliegirl I'm not tech savvy either and I unfortunately don't knew someone in RL that I could ask to install it or to go and see theirs first. I'm sure your electrician will sort out Alexa in no time

I was bit confused as thought you would need to connectthe Dot to speakers or a blue tooth speaker.

I think you can download on Spotify for free but you so get ads. Possibly!!

I've asked Alexa to play John Denver, Queen, some comedy songs for my DGD, all without charge, I also listened to the Simon Bolivar youth orchestra playing the Conga Del Fuego. (Sp).

Kitty Yes I have Spotify on my pad with ads so would be the same.

Does it only recognise your voice or can your DH or DGC also communicate with Alexa?
