Just heading home after picking up my GSs from a friend's and driving down one of the country lanes round here, when a young lad in an old Ford Fiesta came hurtling towards me. I jammed on the brakes and drove up the verge into the hedge, but he still hit me - he was going too fast to stop - I was virtually at a stop by then.
To give the lad his due (he looked about 17) his first question was "Are the children OK?"). I said he was driving too fast and he said he was doing 30 - I gave him an old-fashioned look, but said no more. He seemed a decent lad and didn't give me any grief. TBH I felt a bit sorry for him - he gave me his address and it is one of the local rather run-down estates and I guess he will have saved up for that car - and any future insurance he might want will cost him a fortune that is likely to be beyond his means. He looked very downcast and I wanted to give him a hug! - I desisted.
All I cared about was that the boys were fine and I tried to keep it really low key so as not to worry them. But they did get a lecture on the way home as to why we wear seatbelts!
