When it snows here although the main roads are gritted & OK we have a lot of trouble getting back into our road. You can get out onto a gritted road OK (sliding) but getting back is a nightmare. The road slopes up quite steeply ( & we live at the very top of a steep hill anyway)& it faces NE so it is an icy wind tunnel at the best of times. Some years ago the dustmen thought it would be OK to try & get up as it had not snowed for a couple of days- the van was there for 3 days!It just becomes solid ice. As there are only about 30 houses in the road & it is a cul de sac the council never grit us.
DH is working from home & although I have to get to a supermarket as we have 3 DGC staying for the weekend I am not venturing out today.
I don't mind driving in bad weather but coming down a steep hill a few years ago & crashing at the end has made me more cautious (that was on way back from supermarket too) when a freak storm suddenly hit while I was shopping.
So I am quite resigned to staying at home today but I live in Surrey not Scotland or Yorkshire etc. where they do get awful weather regularly.
I know employers think we are swinging the lead when we say we can't get in- an ex boss was so annoyed when I rang in back in the 80s that he said he would come & get me. He soon gave up trying to get up the long winding hill that leads into our town & never moaned again.
Anyone else enjoying an unexpected day in the warm?
( & if DH says ' any chance of a cup of coffee?' AGAIN he may well find himself out in the snow! Why do men lose the use of their hands when there is a woman around to do things for them!!!)
