Are there any other older people like me, whose family are all miles away, and they are glad when it is over, because all the hype exaggerates their loneliness, and makes them feel even more alone!
I am now looking forward to lighter days, and not being made to feel different.

Ah, feeling different...It can be horrible, can't it. I was "different" when I was widowed in my fifties because I didn't belong to the couples set any more and got dropped from invites unless they could find a spare man. Now I am "different" because I don't have grandchildren and never will. So I don't belong to that club either. Ah well, I now belong to the please yourself club and it is very nice??

I think Christmas and New Year is bittersweet for most, actually. Many of us don't have family, have been "excluded" by family we used to have, quarrel with the family we DO have and end up bitter and resentful.

Perhaps we need to manage our expectations better!

I agree that Christmas I waaaay too hyped, though. If I were on my own, with no obligations, I think I'd go away and stay away until January.

After the decorations are put away
I will have big bowl of bulbs in my dining table.
To me they symbolise 'new life and hope' smile

I understand and sympathise with anyone who is alone over the Christmas holidays, and there are quite a lot, including people here on Gransnet.
Soon be the New Year though, after which life gets back to normal.
I already have a bowl of hyacinths coming up, after planting them in Autumn, although the flowers won't be out until mid Jan.
