Yes careof123, most unusual, the palace are playing it down saying it's just a cold. At 90 any illness is concerning I suppose. Think she deserves a rest now.
Marmark, it's possible , HM has been quietly relinquishing some duties and the photo with Charles was quite telling.

I feel sorry for her- poor thing. I hear she is sooo disappointed with what has been happening to her country this year and must be feeling very down.

If she's had the awful cold that many of us have had then she must be feeling dreadful. Queen or no queen I feel sympathy for any 90 year old with that virus.

She's got/had a nasty virus. She's 90. Of course she can't take any chances, and we have no idea what she thinks about the state of the world/country!

Quite, Anya! I hope she is ok as the thought of Charles being king fills me with dismay. He appears to becoming a caricature of himself.

Am I the only one here who thinks there may be more to this? If she is very ill and going downhill, perhaps that's why the younger ones are not staying at Sandringham this year?

As most of you know I'm never positive about royalty but I wouldn't wish this cold bug on anyone.

I wouldn't wish this horrible cold and cough on anyone either but thank goodness for servants, chefs, helicopters, luxurious palaces and private doctors .

It was the Middleton's turn to have the family at Christmas this year. Besides, if there's a nasty bug going round, best not to expose young children to it if possible.,

I think what is more telling, than the Queen's cold, is that Prince William made a big thing of Not Being There.

I can understand him wanting to spend the day with his children. Apparently Royal tiddlers have to have a separate Christmas Dinner with their nannies so as not to upset the formality but his determination to do things the Middleton his way might be making the Queen think, Oh sod it. I've done my bit.....Whatever!

No real reason, kitty, just surmising. The Queen, being such a stoical character, wouldn't want to show anyone any signs of illness, her public or her younger family?

Good for William, the Middleton way sounds like he is putting his kids needs first.

I wish the Middleton's influence would extend to the children's clothes.

Sad news about Zara Tindell (?) she must have been about 20 weeks on.

kitty, Prince George's coat was so ill fitting it looked like it had been run up in a hurry by some junior seamstress beavering away in the attic!

I felt terribly sorry for Zara and Mike Tindall. Recent pictures have shown them to be loving and fun parents. Their little girl, Mia, is delightful.

I agree kitty, it's like the kids have stepped out of the 1950's, and not in a good way.

I should think (hope) that her doctors are just being extra - cautious. Remember Philip didn't appear on that trip down the Thames, ?last winter? because he had an infection. He's 95!
