I've seen a lot of stuff on the interweb recently which suggests that parents should have " the discussion" with children, either before they're 5, or at least before they go to school.
Now, I have long thought that parents should make it clear that it's your friends and family who provide the gifts, and that we all just pretend it's Santa. When this has been suggested to friends, I got the " taking away the magic" chat, but, from watching my own older children/ grandchildren, they are every bit excited as the wee ones. Are mine just very mercenary? I suspect not.I obviously followed the party line with ours, as I didn't want to spoil other parents' Christmas.
I heard on the radio of parents who were summoned to their children's school because they had told their children that the gifts came from their family and friends.
I suspect many children play along to keep their parents happy ( and ensure a good haul on the day!)
Ann Droid, anyone watched this? BBC 1

My two youngest GSs, 9 and 11, determinedly hang on to the myth of Santa, though I'm sure as can be that their peer group will have exploded that myth years ago. There's no problem - they will come to terms with reality sooner or later and realise that a comforting myth is not the same thing as a lie.
