Clothes and weight loss

After starting some new medication the side effects being I've lost 2 stone. It's made such a difference in my clothing that everything is so baggy. Including my body.blushI've donated lots of clothes and still haven't weeded everything out of my closets. I've always had more clothing then I need. Like a lot of women I've been up and down in weight and have at least two sizes in the closet. I'd like to think this time it will be different since I'm now diabetic and I'm watching my diet? I guess what I'm asking is it feasible to think I can maintain this weight loss and feel comfortable with loss of all those clothes and just have a few that fit? I am having one coat altered but nothing else. I had plenty to last the rest of my life of good quality. sad

I lost 2 stone a few years ago, deliberately, not through illness and I have kept it off. I have never had vast quantities of clothes, but I really enjoyed getting rid of all the oversized clothes and replacing them with clothes 2 sizes smaller. One or two garments did stay wearable; a winter coat and a couple of sweaters but everything else from underwear up had to be replaced and the local Charity shop was grateful for my discards.

Any regrets? yes, a lovely long grey wool winter coat, it absolutely swamped me after the weight loss. I gave it to DDiL, who is much taller than me and proportionately wider. DGD (aged 9) has told me that everyone says how nice her mummy looks in the coat. I have been unable to replace it, even three years later, but it was unwearable and the problem was the fit on the shoulders so not really alterable.

DTE if you had not corrected your mistake I would not have been bothered by it.

Why do these stupid corrections still exist?

We are human and prone to the odd spelling/other mistake

I lost a good deal of weight a few years ago and pondered on the clothes dilemma as I had some nice and expensive things but I decided in the end to settle on a size I wanted to be get there and stick to it so lovely or not clothes that weren't that size had to go or I would have been yo-yoing up and down the wardrobe forever.

I lost 3 stone a couple of years ago and got rid of my largest clothes immediately. I kept some just a little big in case of weight gain. I have in fact put on about 5 or 6 pounds now but I haven't gone up a size so have gradually got rid of the bigger clothes.

i have the same dilemma, i have lost a stone since retiring last year and most of my clothes are hanging on me. It is hard to get rid of good quality clothes especially if you like them still so i have bought a few items in smaller sizes and will see how things go after Xmas the time when i would put on weight normally then in the new year make a decision as to what to do. I guess if you get rid of bigger sizes it is a way to keep the weight off as being on a pension means having to be careful with purchasing clothes and shoes. Well done though especially if it helps a health issue ENVIOUS.

Well done Envious! I think the best way is to weigh yourself regularly and believe you can keep the weight off. As for clothes do you know anyone who can take some of your nicer pieces in? If you can afford to please treat yourself to a lovely new item as a pat on the back!

Thank you yes I have given quite a few clothes to a friend who was very appreciative and I've taken some to what you call a charity shop. The scale is a good idea because I stay way from it in the mornings if I feel I didn't eat so well the day before. Before you know it a few days turns into a few weeks!

Envious like most women I have fluctuated over my adult life between 2 or 3 dress sizes. However 10 years ago i lost 5 stone due to cancer but didnt know it - I looked gorgeous which turned out to be confusing for getting a diagnosis and everyone around me. I gave loads of my 'big' clothes to charity shops, but soon was back to 2 stone heavier but still 3 sizes smaller than originally. Cured now. However I still mourn a formal black dress and jacket I bought for work which was nearly new. ( From Ann something, cant remember the retailers name) If only. I have kept a few other things which we such good quality I cant bear to part with them. Feel better lighter though.

I too lost about 3 stone about 5 years ago and got rid of those big clothes and, on the whole, was glad to get rid of them because I feel so much better this size. I feel younger and more like the real me, so that helps me to keep it off (I think, I hope, fingers crossed - don't want it to creep back!)

Worried about looking even older if lose the weight I feel I should! Think my wrinkles would be even deeper..
But now the clothes issue too.

My weight has fluctuated too over the years but this summer (due to a rare holiday) I was motivated to get down to a low not seen before since my 30s. Sadly an operation and other problems have seen a deterioration in my fitness in the last few months and up I go again. What is surprising is that each time I lose or gain weight my shape changes! I can still wear my smaller jeans now but there is an unattractive roll of fat above the waistband that I've never had before. Has anyone else noticed this?

Willow500 Sun 30-Oct-16 07:26:10

I lost over 3 stones 3 years ago and also got rid of all my bigger clothes - although I've put a stone back on most of the replacements still fit but I worry that if I gain any more I'll be looking at bigger sizes again. I too have the uncomfortable roll above my waistband - I periodically have to hitch my jeans up to fit it back in grin Strangely my size 10 black maxi coat I bought 20 years ago has fitted me throughout all my weight changes even at my heaviest!

I am just so envious of these people who have ' lost 2 stone, 3 stone!' I was diagnosed with pre diabetes a few years ago and got down to just under 8 stone. I was so happy with my body. Then I stopped smoking ( almost 3 years since my last cigarette now) and the weight has piled on ever since. During my thin period I got rid of all my large jeans so now I am having to buy jeans in size **. I have kept my size 12 jeans, but all I can do is look at them sadly from time to time!

Losing 2 stone is easy, I've done it many times, unfortunately putting on 3 stone is easier sad

Corncob Sun 30-Oct-16 09:55:55

I was only seven stone when my DH passed away, guess it was all the worry. I quit smoking six years ago and now weigh ten and a half stone, much too heavy for my hight of 5ft 3 inches. I get breathless going upstairs etc so I know I need to shift some and get down to maybe 9stone.Much easier said than done for me.

Falconbird Sun 30-Oct-16 10:12:57

After blood tests etc., I was OK but I had an appointment with a Clinical Pharmacist who said I should lose weight. I was 11 stone and 5.3" tall. I've lost a stone but no-one has noticed but my clothes are a better fit.

Legs55 Sun 30-Oct-16 14:06:45

Last Summer I lost about a stone, only through doing a lot of digging in my garden - not my usual form of exercise although I love gardening. Noticed my rings getting loose & a couple of my friends noticed.

I am Type 2 Diabetic so really need to loose weight as I am 5'6" & weight 16 stone, dropped down to 15 stone. Problem is that I am also Epileptic & AED slows metebolism - catch 22 thlconfused
