Out shopping last Friday,
Me:- Do we need any more Marmite?
OH:- no, we have plenty
Monday morning, breakfast
OH:- have we got any more Marmite in the cupboard?
Me:- no, you said we had plenty
OH:- yes, but that doesn't mean you didn't buy some.

I know, I know, I am still trying to think of a pithy reply without resorting to violence. Help please Phoenix, I need your input here.

grin

I have this sort of "interference" all the time.

I was sorting the recycling into two bins outside the back door yesterday, because we seem to have a lot this week.

OH: Are you mad? (which in my house is an endearment). Pickup is only on Tuesday.
Me: No, but we seem to have a lot this week so am getting on top of the sorting early. Later I see he has put all the recycling out on the street 2 days early.
Me: Are you mad? Pickup is only on Tuesday.
OH: You confused me.

KatyK Mon 12-Sept-16 10:29:30

I posted something similar a while ago.

Me: I'm going to the shops, is there anything you need.
DH: No thanks

Later that evening:

DH: Oh I haven't got any deodorant angry

DH is a jam addict. When we go shopping he swears we have eaten all the jam when I know there are unopened jars in the cupboard, so I have to wrestle it off him. I told him last week he absolutely was not to buy anymore jam. Yesterday, at GS's footie match, one of the lads' older brothers was selling jam he had made (from his granny's recipe) to raise funds for a World Challenge trip to India with his school. "Oh you can't buy any of that" says DH in an unnaturally loud voice "We have too many jars already!" If I hadn't had a dodgy knee I would have chased him round the field with a corner flag! We bought two jars.

DH: Do we need anything at shops?
Me: Just bread and milk, as we are going away. No fruit etc.
DH returns from shops.

Me: Where's the milk?
DH: What milk? OH I wrote it down, but forgot to pick it up, but I got nectarines (very expensive ones!)
Me: Aaaaaarrrrrgggghhh!!!!!

Wow!! I am blessed. We always keep a list on the go and add to it when necessary so we never run out of anything.

We go to Tesco and DH takes charge - he knows exactly where everything is in Tesco and he pushes the trolley. He packs everything into it very neatly - I just walk alongside and browse here and there.
When we are at the checkout he places all the items on the conveyor belt and it looks like a very neat jigsaw. Then he pays and places it all back into the trolley - again, very neatly.

Get to the car and he loads it all into boxes already in the boot for this purpose. (I park the trolley in the shelter and line up all the loose trolleys. (How sad is that!?)
We then drive home and he tells me to do whatever makes me happy so that he can unload the groceries unencumbered by me getting in the way (I love this) and packs everything away in its rightful place.
Shopping with DH is a joy .
Alas, I have had to do it on my own for the last couple of months as he is receiving intensive chemotherapy in isolation (completely out of the blue) and as he is doing quite well, but my trolley is a shocker - and it would make him laugh but he would have to tidy it up. He is an ex Naval man - and it shows, everything in his life is in order and I love it.

Emilie flowers for you. you made me cry.

Pinkshoes26 Mon 12-Sept-16 13:11:37

My grocery shopping is so diffrent!
I shop online once a week. Tesco and then Sainsbobs alt. weeks.
All down to me but I ask for requests witch are usually none.
I keep milk and bread in the freezer for if we run low. No spending in the local more expensive small grocery store.
My list for shopping is kept by my desk top.
I home cook every day and cater for many family guests. Lots of sharing meals.

Tizliz Mon 12-Sept-16 13:19:51

Emilie you need to take a photo of your trolley and send it to him, then he will hurry up getting better.

Tizliz Mon 12-Sept-16 13:23:53

pinkshoes you should really use your local shop or one day when you need it they will not be there. Our local fuel station is expensive but it would be more expensive if we run out and they are closed down so we fill up there at least once a month

Legs55 Mon 12-Sept-16 13:27:38

My late DH used to push the trolley & I would direct him to the aisles we needed - his worst habit was browsing (I like to be in & out) & picking up things we didn't need, usually nice treats but not budgeted for. I would never have let him go shopping on his own.grin

Now I have Tesco delivery (most supermarkets don't deliver where I live) & use Milkman & local shop for fresh fruit & veg plus little top-ups smile

marionk Mon 12-Sept-16 13:44:54

My ex brother in law used to go shopping with Sil and when she wasn't looking put back anything he deemed too expensive or unnecessary! She regularly got home and found she was missing stuff she thought she had bought. I would have killed him ?

Alishka Mon 12-Sept-16 14:06:58

emelle your husband sounds a star! smile and your closeness and love shines through,

Best wishes for him and his treatments.

Me, I took the attitude when undergoing chemo "this is WAR! There'll be casualties but the good Guys are going to Win grin.

20 years on, I wasn't proved wrong!

Actually, a pet hate of mine are the husbands, now perhaps retired, who go along with their wives, to 'help' . A quick whizz round then becomes an hour-long trek, frayed nerves, and, anyone else see this? They check the receipt while still at the till ...

inishowen Mon 12-Sept-16 14:24:27

I had been out one morning and when I came home the keys were missing from the back door. DH refused to admit he'd lost them, and accused me of throwing paper into the recycling, and throwing the keys too. Two days later he dashed out and searched his car. Came back and said he was going to search the recycling bin. Two minutes later he was waving the keys at me and saying he had found them in the bin. I was flabbergasted and told him I knew he'd just found them in his car. He had to admit it in the end. The lengths he went to blame me was unbelievable.

Auntieflo Mon 12-Sept-16 14:42:51

Emelle, flowers for you and hope that his treatment is successful. My OH is a help/ companion on our supermarket trips. ( he does return the trolley) but I would love him to have some of your DH organised ways. I also enjoy tidying up the trolleys in their shelters, when I shop on my own

DanniRae Mon 12-Sept-16 14:49:48

Yeah, I've got one like that inishowen and it makes me bl**dy mad - were you cross?

Emelle19 - I tidy up all the loose trolleys too - I know it's sad but I quite enjoy it.

TriciaF Mon 12-Sept-16 14:53:44

Emelle - I do hope his health improves and he's back shopping with you again soon. flowers

Christinefrance Mon 12-Sept-16 14:57:27

Emelle all good wishes to your husband, it's a worrying time I know.
I am one of the lucky ones too, my husband does all the shopping except toiletries and all the cooking,. Seems I have a lot to be grateful for.

harrigran Mon 12-Sept-16 15:21:48

Good wishes for your DH Emelle.DH has been brilliant at doing the shopping while I have been ill, I do go with him when up to it but he loads the trolley and the belt then packs everything into cool bags.

grannypiper Mon 12-Sept-16 15:23:07

Emelle19......... love and hugs to you both x

shysal Mon 12-Sept-16 15:35:32

Emelle, best wishes for a speedy recovery to your DH. My supermarket has changed all the stock around. I bet he would hate that, I certainly do!

Blinko Mon 12-Sept-16 16:13:20

DH popping to the local shop: Anything you want while I'm there?
Moi: Could you bring a mango please? DH returns with a butternut squash.....

On another occasion having spotted aubergines a day or so before: Could you bring aubergines, please?
DH on return: Sorry, but there weren't any.
So when I nip across to check (sigh), yes, there they are, nearly a basket full. Just not at eye level.

I despair!
