DD did quite a lot of extra work a few years ago.
She was in several tv productions but was rather put out that her scene in a well-known film was cut!

I hope your DH gets the job, enjoys it very much - even if his scene is cut (I hope not) - he will have had a good time and been paid for it.

A couple of our relatives are regular extras in one of the soaps. We don't normally watch it, but just make sure we catch it occasionally to see if we can spot them sinking a pint and a glass of wine in the snug and miming a lively conversation (apparently rhubarb, rhubarb isn't allowed these days ). We keep hinting that they could put in a kind word for DH and me, but I think they've cornered the market for "elderly couple in smart casual".

Exciting...I'd hate it though. I avoid the camera at all cost.

We had a friend, now long gone, whose claim to fame was he played the tail gunner in The Dambusters. When you see the film there he is, flying jacket collar up to his ears, wearing an oxygen mask, goggles and flying helmet! Totally unrecognisable!

My brother was an extra in that film about William Wilberforce and the slave trade - we have seen it and spotted him! It was in full costume of course and the bit he liked best was being measured up for his tight trousers by a young costume assistant!

My dear uncle who was a paratrooper in ww2 was an extra in an Alan Ladd film from the 50's set during the war. He can be seen leaping out of a plane along with about 50 other men. Not that you can tell who he is!

That sounds such fun - hope he gets the gig My DIL was/is a wig dresser and make up artist and worked in several West End productions, films and on Downton for years until they emigrated to her native NZ 3 years ago. She's just been offered another stint on Game of Thrones - filming starts in Spain in Oct which would mean her bringing our two small grandsons over - she wouldn't leave them all that time. Whilst I'm thrilled at the prospect that we might see them I am concerned that it is a big disruption to their lives. The lure of all those Dothraki men to make up might just tip the balance though

We have a friend who is an extra. He has been in loads of films and TV but I never really spot him until he tells me exactly where to look in a scene!
He was a medic in Skyfall checking how well JB was doing in the gym and was an 'aristocrat' of some sort at several gatherings in Downton! but I still failed to recognise him!

How exciting We were almost in Doc Martin once! We were on holiday in Port Isaac and we were sitting on the beach watching them film. Martin Clunes walked past a few times but we were just out of shot. They were handing out some disclaimers or something to some bystanders who were obviously going to be in shot.

Really exciting! My Sister in Law is quite often an extra in TV programmes and really enjoys it.

One of my close friends is on the books as an Extra, but as yet hasn't been free for the parts on offer. (Her daughter had the starring role in an Indie film recently.) She says the pay is actually quite good, but really I know it's the whole acting thing that's the draw - my friend is a wonderful singer and actress (seen her in lots of am dram musicals) who would have lived to have a career on stage. Her daughters are both singer/actresses and are living their mum's dream.

My cousin in Scotland used to be a regular extra in a detective series, he thought he was picked because of his beard. They've evidently retired him and are looking for a replacement!

Problem is if you are typecast the question is how do I get to know when they are looking for the next batch of Ooompa Loompas?
