The joys of country living.....EEEEEEEEK !

My neighbour feeds the birds a lot, she has a stone wall in which the rats nest. She caught 7 in her traps last week - she would shoot them if she was allowed!

I'm struggling to think of anything that would frighten me more. Shower trap cleaning is definitely not for me!

Not just country living, there are plenty of urban rats.

EEEEEEEK! Indeed. I thought you were going to post about some sort of insect, especially as I've just had some sort of revolting hinged wasp flying around the living room.
I speak as someone who tried to convince herself that the 'birds' on the roof in the early hours of the morning, wore hob-nailed boots.

Eek that is a nasty shock to find for sure. I am no fan of rats, but a couple of years ago we had a nest at the bottom of the garden. I actually saw the babies all running onto the bird table and sliding down the pole in the middle again and again. They looked so cute and were having fun just as all young creatures do.
We stopped feeding the birds for a while, kept an eye out that they didn't come close to the house, and after a few weeks they moved on of their own accord :-)While all this rat activity playground was going on our Dog would just lie further up the garden sunbathing and watching!!

I'll have one eye on the trap when I have a shower tonight that's for sure.

DH is fishing so I phoned to inform him of my near heart failure and all he said was, 'Told you it couldn't possibly be a design fault!!'

Only the other day my friend was moaning that their new shower wasn't draining away: I can't tell her this story.

No, I couldn't do rats. We find toads, frogs and slugs coming in our back door, but not rats. Probably having the cat helps.

why oh why are you enternaining rats, cos maybe, just maybe you are leaving scraps of food etc., to entice them !!!!

I have just remembered I saw a dead mouse in a big garden bucket on Monday. I was suffering with a stiff neck and I did nothing about it as bending was too uncomfortable. I have just been to look and it's still there.

Must bury it tomorrow.

We trapped about eight mice earlier in the year after the B*****s chewed a hole in the bottom of my garden shed.
I think we need a new trapping campaign but I don't think I like the ldea of disposing them. OH is away for the next two weeks. I might be brave and try.

That sounds horrible*merlot*, even by our standards. ie we've seen rats around our chickens but not yet in the house. Dead mice yes. We have a constant battle with them.
And like Carol, other creatures in the house. There's a huge toad who appears nearly every evening, I shovel him into a bucket and put him back near the pond. Once found a hedgehog asleep under the stairs. And once a very strange hamster-like animal with huge brown eyes, sat near the rubbish bin. Still don't know what it was.
