Oh dear kitty. The railway bridge in Hexham was strengthened recently. I'm glad it didn't fall down, imagine the disruption, it's the main route into the town from both east and west.
I hope they get your bridge sorted soon. They had a temporary one in a village near me for about four years!!

So I saw on Twitter this morning Kitty the train line behind our house is therefore very quiet this morning. I hope it gets fixed soon ,,, horrible to be without water and to be fearing a flood. The weather forecast looks very good for this weekend in our area so perhaps they can get straight on with the work they were going to do anyway.

The water is back on and it's not raining so things are looking good. Apart from the replacement buses for the trains.

Looking at that online, it could have derailed a train if there were trains running after it happened

Actually, people have been reporting cracks for ages now and 'experts' come and look, dig a hole, scratch their heads, fill in the hole and go away. HGVs from the enormous building site in the village are now being blamed. Heigh ho!

Total sympathy kittylester, lets hope you get a replacement bridge quicker than in Staveley in Cunbria, they have been without an important road bridge since the December floods last year, and now they are saying there will not be a replacement bridge until September 2017, how do villages, and people/businesses survive like this. Good Luck,and glad your water is back on, and lets hope for dry weather.

Or a town near here, which lost a road bridge in the Boxing Day floods. They have a temporary footbridge, but traffic is still being diverted, and they're saying it'll be the end of the year before the new road bridge will be finished.

Whoops, sorry to be a doom and gloom merchant! I'm sure they'll crack on a lot faster with a railway bridge.

I've just heard about your bridge on the seven o'clock news! I'm sure he mentioned you by name.
I'm off to London in a couple of weeks- hope it's sorted by then.....! That service is usually(touch wood) very good.

This is what happened to this bridge. The whole of the brick side wall just collapsed. I do wonder why it was left so long. That is going to take some work to get it fixed.

Looks like a huge job they will have to do. You think if it was in need of urgent repairs they would started on it sooner, honestly no common sense
