If you've read this week's Waitrose give-away newspaper you might have seen the 'bit' about the Fabulousoldies.com website. It's a website started by a professional photographer who posts photos and stories about 'fabulous oldies' (what else?). It's a heart warming site and a celebration of spirit in the face of age and decrepitude. But there's a tiny, tiny voice in my head that says this is a form of exploitation. The 'oldies' shown are a source of amusement. Please look and tell me I'm wrong, that this is a positive way to celebrate aging ...

I think the intention might be good, but you know what they say about good intentions! Above all it is a self-agrandisement site for this photographer, and will be "positive" for as long as that suits his purposes. I don't think I will be a frequent visitor.

I doubt if the people featured in the blog realised that their photos would end up there, accompanied by the blogger's deathless prose, so it is exploitation and patronising too.
