Has anyone reading this ever had cramp in the thigh. Inner thigh. Last night I had excruciating pain, I couldn't stand up, I came over all hot, faint and cried. It was unbearable as though electric shock currents were passing through my thigh. After 10 mins it subsided. What causes this? Does anyone know?

Are you taking statins AlgeswifeVal? It can be a side effect.

No, Tanith, I am not on statins. I do take adcal tablets, calcium tablets for life but nothing else. However, I do, do a lot of active stuff such as rambling, swimming and badminton. Maybe that has something to do with it but it is absolutely awful when it happens. I have had 3 bouts of this but very spaced out. i worry that if this happens when I am driving it could be horrible.

It could be a lack of magnesium if it is cramp. You could try supplements or a bar of soap under the sheet of your bed where the pain comes but not touching the skin. Soap contains magnesium and works for cramp in my feet. You could try it in the car too but wrap it in some cotton but thin so that the magnesium can still work, although if you were pulled up by the police and there's a bar of soap between your thighs, there might be some embarrassment. blush grin

I 've had this a few times and it terrified me, the pain was so intense . I've observed that it happens when I havn't drunk enough fluid or I've eaten salty food, so now quickly consumed a glass of water and that wards it off .

It sounds as if it might be cramping. I friend of mine had a similar excruciating pain after playing badminton maybe you made a difficult twinging move.

Thank you every one for the advice. I will drink more water when doing my sport activities and I was told I need potassium as is found in bananas. The soap theory, never heard of that one. Will definitely try it. Another episode of this is a terrifying thought.

I suffer sometimes from thigh cramp and it's the worst pain I've ever had. Childbirth was a breeze in comparison. I think the problem is your thigh muscle is the biggest muscle in your body, so when it contracts it really hurts. The other problem is how to get rid of it. I've found that if my husband rubs the muscle up and down with his hands it helps it subside. The other thing I do is walk up and down and sort of shake my leg. A pint of water and a banana is a remedy I use.

Yes I have had it, and cramp all over once which was terrible; it is agonising, and no, I don't take statins.
DD recommended magnesium tissue salts, tiny dissolvable tablets, but I can't seem to buy them in England.
Bananas contain magnesium but may not be enough if you are deficient at the moment.

Perhaps taking calcium is causing an imbalance, as often calcium and magnesium are combined in a tablet.

Another idea is to have a sitz bath with epsom salts, which also contain magnesuim. Just sit in it warm for about 20 minutes. Look it up online. There are also scented epsom salts too, I use lavender. Calms me down too. I do foot soaks though because I get my cramp in my feet. Good luck love, I hope something works soon. X
