This is a daft question so forgive me for being such a worry wart. Our only grandchild is 5 in the next few days and coming so close after Christmas we are short of present ideas. So I thought we'd give cash to the parents in advance so they can buy something nice and appropriate for the big day. But, having read so many complaints about things grandparents do or don't do recently I'm wondering if we're coping out and not making enough effort on her behalf? No mention of a birthday party or tea (school day) so I don't think we expect to see our grandchild on the day. Is our plan acceptable???
