Icing sugar coated surfaces and floor because the sodding bag fell out of the cupboard here last week. It doesn't brush/vacuum up and I'm still sticking to the blasted floor because washing it was a big, big mistake.....

Oh dear Icyalittle, I too fear being in a sticky kitchen for weeks to come!

Oh how horrible I'm afraid its a big bucket of hot soapy water lots of cloths and elbow grease. Put the radio on loud and sing a long to something that gets you going while you work.

You will have a lovely clean kitchen to greet the new year!

Oh dear; when I started to whisk the royal icing for the Christmas cake a cloud of powdery sugar flew up and went everywhere.
The kitchen was nice and clean afterwards after I had finished swearing although there could still be some on ledges somewhere. I should have known better, though, my own fault.

Yesterday the kitchen floor got an extra good vacuuming because I smashed a small pyrex bowl. I had just finished clearing it up when I smashed a small white plate. They say it comes in threes

The trouble with spilt sugar is that it gets places you might not imagine it could!

My DGD loves making icing, but it has to involve a mini-mountain of icing sugar that she can run her fingers through - it always takes several hours to round it all up afterwards.

Oh dear, you have my sympathy. Any kind of sugar spillage brings out the screaming monster in me (chiefly because I know it's going to bring out the bloody bucket and mop, even if I've only just washed the bloody floor). And why oh why do we not notice the spillage until we've got it all stuck over the soles of our shoes/slippers and walked it everywhere

For any spill on the floor I have a solution which works so well I'm going to patent it !!

There are 2 options - one does a bottom shuffle through dropped items the other uses a 'hoovering' option ( they are interchangeable!!)

Ps anything not 'hoovered up' is rolled in and attached to coat !! :-)

Now all of you go and sit down with a cup of tea - and don't move!

Although my poor mum had a helllava bad life, she always used to say that sugar on the floor was the worst thing!

Thank you all for your sympathy. It's still sticky, despite my best efforts. (Elbow grease is a bit lacking this week, I fell off my bike and crunched my shoulder). And every time I take something out of the cupboard, another little sprinkle comes with it, that was lurking in the folds. luckygirl you are so right about the random places it gets Do you think it is worth borrowing a dog?

Don't know about a dog, it will have to be a little monkey to climb up into the cupboard

Rosequartz I broke the smallest of my three nesting pyrex mixing bowls a couple of weeks ago. The wretched bits go everywhere and we have not been able to find a replacement yet.

They do shatter into a myriad bits, especially on a ceramic floor!

I have too much stuff in my cupboards anyway, a recipe for disaster, now two things less!

Oh dear, know just how you feel!
DH opened a large 2lb jar of jam for me as he walked across the kitchen. As he opened it he held it on its' side and unfortunately because it was a soft set it dripped over the floor, over the worktop and down onto the cupboard door underneath. Even worse was that he didn't notice and walked it all round the kitchen carrying it on his shoes onto the dining room and the sitting room carpets. Being grey, the kitchen floor does not show the dirt and so it was incredibly difficult to find it all. The blackcurrant jam showed up so much better on the pale green carpets! So sticky and took so much time and energy to clean it all up!
Poor DH was mortified!

You have my sympathy icy, sugar is horrible to clean up.
At the Asda check-out the other day I noticed a bag of sugar was leaking slightly. Under the new regulations I was refused a bag to put it in, although I had been given an unwanted one for a book! I swapped them over once I left the till, but it seemed crazy.

Tut tut check out person should have offered to change it for you.
I'm pretty sure until you leave the checkout it's their problem.
