I never know what to put under which heading so I plumped for Other Subjects.

On Christmas evening, in the middle of Downton our lights went out. Everything went out. Just us. And nothing had tripped the switches. We had assumed our AA insurance would cover us - it didn't, and they didn't want to know. Neither did EON (no supplier does, he said). But he did give us Networks number. By this time my mobile phone was nearly out of battery. (It was all so much simpler when you just trotted down the road to the phone box and rang the Electricity Board.)

However, I have to say UK Power Networks were wonderful. Very efficient. Sooo - for those who hadn't considered what to do if the lights go out (like us)..... The number that ring is 0800 783 8838. Keep it handy!!

What caused it Nfk?

It was eventually traced the an old join under the front wall. They've no idea why the original cable had gone but they said the mend had been done with the "wrong glue"! We now have a nice new cable with no joins.

I did find it a bit strange when the 'old' repair turned out to be around 1980! That's not what I would call old!

DGS and his dog greatly appreciated watching the little digger - especially it nearly tipping over into the hole!

(We don't have a very lovely view to the front of our house - but an interesting one)

Hope you were able to catch up on Downton and that Christmas went well otherwise.

House and Home?
Legal and Money?

Did it cost you, by the way?

I have duly copied the number under useful numbers in my address book. Thanks.

Just a reminder that cordless phones rely on electricity, so it is worth keeping a cheap corded one to plug in during power failures. I have been grateful for mine on several occasions.smile

Thought about house and home DJ - I usually just opt for chat!

No mention of money has been made. DH has a feeling it may be a legal requirement somewhere along the line that if electricity is connected to the house it has to be maintained. So free - he thinks! Watch this space!
