Cosy cardigan.

Instead of a thermal cardigan, why not wear a long sleeved thermal top under a normal thick cardigan. That is what I do under lighter tops when I need extra hear.

Why don't you want a fleece? I love them, you can get blazer styles that look quite smart, or go for a cashmere/merino wool cardigan (cheapest at Woolovers online) which are really warm, worn with a thermal vest and viscose roll top top underneath. You could add a warm gilet for extra warmth.

Cashmere the best if you can afford it

I was looking for something a bit dressier than a fleece so I could wear it in different situations. I don't find layers/anything fitted very comfortable/easy to wear given my difficult shape (spinal condition) so prefer light, loose tops with something cosy over the top.

Have you looked at Woolovers website as mentioned by starbird? Their cardigans are beautifully warm and wash well, and come in a range of styles etc. wear an M&S Heatgen long sleeved tee shirt or top next to your skin, then a shirt and cardigan.

Have you looked at Landsend? They have warm stylish stuff!

Cotton Traders might be another to consider.

Have a look at Cotton Traders' web site. There are jackets like sweat shirts but with zips. They have a fleecy lining but are quite thick cotton on the outside. If you are looking for something smarter, I also recommend Woolovers as I like a long-line cardi and have several in different colours which I often wear over one of their jumpers if it's really cold. I find their range of colours unbearably tempting!

I have the same problem when I visit my best friend - I always feel cold in her house, so I just 'layer up'. Long sleeved tee shirt under a long sleeved shirt and usually a lambs wool sweater. Also leggings under my trousers. I dress similarly when I go to DD's - they don't seem to feel the cold! I am currently knitting what I hope will be a cosy cardigan, but it is growing so slowly I may be in a care home (or worse!) before it's finished! Maybe I'll look at Damart too!

I just don't visit anymore if they have a cold house. I don't do cold.

They are not loose but I find the heatgen T shirts from Marks good - lots of colours and designs - long sleeves and scooped necklines but although they sell them with the other thermal vests in the undie dept they do not look like underwear. I find that close fitting clothing (including jegging type trousers) are far warmer than loose ones as there are no drafts! I sympathise with you about visiting people with cool homes - I find unless wearing boots my ankles get cold when visiting homes like that.

After a particularly cold February half-term spent at MIL's house, which had no central heating, I understood why she had so many Damart catalogues!

I don't expect many of us were brought up in homes with central heating - have we all become nesh?

katek you're right - DH has a lovely lined cardigan from M&S but I can never find what I want. What about Edinburgh Woollen Mill, do they do one?

I buy my lambswool crew neck sweaters from EWM, but I've never fancied their cardigans.
