Is there anything around today, that you consider, has been accorded far more gravitas than it actually deserves.

Football maybe?

Fashion - I'm thinking of catwalk shows where solemn face c'lebs gather and gawp as if they are about to experience the second coming. Instead of some emaciated person parading up and down in a stupid frock!

PRINTMISS Wed 16-Sept-15 15:01:48

Just do not get me started on Football!

TerriBull Wed 16-Sept-15 15:07:38

I think it was alright once PRINTMISS in Bobby Moore's day. It's the demi god status they are accorded and just too much money, it's out of all proportion, IMO.

IT Girls - famous for being famous confused

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Sept-15 15:11:55

Gransnet. HQ takes it far too seriously. (Yes, I know it's down to kerching!)

jinglbellsfrocks Wed 16-Sept-15 15:46:07

Please don't let me kill the thread! shock

One person objecting to something. In the past it was accepted that you cannot please all the people all the time. Now if one person objects to something - a plant, a wendy house, a wind chime; their objection is treated more seriously than the the responses from 999 people who have actively said they have no objection.

selfies.
Especially those from, well I was going to say from the Z list category, but actually, anyone who wants much exposure from them.

Nonnie Wed 16-Sept-15 16:15:58

I agree with MOnica.

Slebs

Some minority groups (dare not say which) take themselves far too seriously when their cause was won ages ago.

and the opposite, some causes are not taken seriously enough! I find it hard to accept that shared parenting is not the legal norm and that prejudice against the father is still so strong. That is a minority group which needs to be taken more seriously

TerriBull Wed 16-Sept-15 16:33:45

Yes really should have mentioned selfies - I can forgive teens, I think being self absorbed goes with the territory, but people over the age of say mid 20s, stop being so interested in yourself please.

Good idea to turn this thread on it's head Nonnie and draw attention to important causes that are not taken seriously.

People getting a bit overweight. (Leave us the f--- alone hmm)

Maggiemaybe Wed 16-Sept-15 17:19:38

The Kardashians. Who are they anyway? confused And please don't answer that, I have my hands over my ears.

rosequartz Wed 16-Sept-15 17:28:15

All of the above.

MPs (most of them)
The job should bring a degree of gravitas but many of them are complete idiots with their antics.

Celebrities who think their uneducated and simplistic views on politics, climate change, world affairs etc are interesting and of importance to the rest of us. Leave it to the real experts (and not those fiddling the statistics) I say.
Perhaps they could start a Celebsnet and chunter amongst themselves instead. Like wot we do.

Nouvelle Cuisine

Power walking

Washing machines that do more than simply wash at 30/40/60% or boil.

Using words such as staycation/chillax etc. You are going on a holiday!

Brand name clothing

Calling people A list celebrities because they appeared on a tatty show about 'ordinary' people.

annodomini Wed 16-Sept-15 20:01:16

Anorexic models showing clothes that no normal woman could possibly wear.

rosesarered Wed 16-Sept-15 21:10:58

I agree with your list POGS, I would also add children and teenagers, as so many parents seem to treat them like little Emperors [ they must have all what they want when they want and exhibit spolit behaviour as a result]so that teachers, police and society in general has to put up with.
this is not all children obviously, but an awful lot.
As to the Kardashians, aren't they an alien aggressive race in Star Trek?

rosesarered Wed 16-Sept-15 21:11:56

TV chefs!

I was going to write a list but decided against it for fear of upsetting anyone.

Personally I think there are so many people I could name, that the list might be endless. Why does anyone think that they are more important than the next man woman? I mean we all breath the same air, we all eat and drink, fart, wee and poo, (even the queen and the pope) . Why does anyone deserve any more respect than someone else just because they are famous, rich, important or royal ? I just don't get it.
