Did you actually manage to count while you backed out of the door?

I did, no-one was in there when I left my cubicle, there was only one man in there when I went in. I thought it was an odd shaped woman in strange clothes. The baseball cap, for a start. I thought she was washing her hands - when I came out of the cubicle and headed for the sink 'she' had been using - it was a urinal! Oops, I see I had already written that - well, I was on my own and intrigued and actually quite cross that their loo was twice the size of our with more facilities. Washbasins at different heights, also urinals. No facility for small girls, though. Is it because men design these things?

As I left, I have to admit to being extremely glad that no males walked in. I opened the door very slowly and peered out cautiously before exiting!

I once walked into a men's toilet, aged 16, right in front of some young guys playing snooker. I was so embarrassed.

Is not only them, recently the loo situation on Banbury station changed , with installing barriers, the men's loo on the went to be replaced by to multi person use loos , only one person at a time, but the good news is the loos on the platforms on up and down lines are open again multi use that is men/women and disabled.

When on a day trip to London we queued outside the ladies with about twenty other ladies. The gents was empty. So I organised a take over and we took over the gents too. When a poor man turned up he was told to join the end of the queue.

It's the same Everywhere. The Manchester festival has been taking place so I've been to more cultural events than usual, in rapid succession. It's reminded me that all the local theatres, even the new (ish) Bridgewater Hall have the same lack of women's toilets. Queues of women outside every facility - surely some bright spark should realise women need more toilets. We are the ones who take the children/elderly grannie in with us.

Rebellion is starting though isn't it, I'm with vampire and have often led/joined a group of women in using the men's.

I've no idea how well equipped the men's loos are in our Sainsbury, but the ladies' has 6 cubicles with 6 basins, one of which is lowered, and two hand driers.
Morrison's has a similar number, but one of our Tesco stores has only 3 cubicles, while another has just 2 . They are both big 'Tesco Extra' stores, so the facilities are really poor in my opinion.
I've never understood why ladies' loos are generally in such short supply - buildings clearly designed by clueless men who've never had to deal with layers of winter clothing, handbags, shopping bags etc. To say nothing of toddlers/elderly relatives needing assistance. It takes time!!! Surely the ubiquitous queues snaking from ladies' loos up and down the country should give the planners/architects some idea?

when, I've always found the Royal Exchange to be an honourable exception, even during the interval when many of us feel the need to 'go'. Our nearest Tesco shares its atrium and loos with M&S. I've never had to wait there.

At a time when many councils are starting to shut down public loos, it's very short-sighted of retailers to not supply enough loos. Our M&S has only one ladies' loo, whereas the Men's loo has one cubicle and two urinals, according to DBH. I didn't get to see that one for myself - yet. It must surely be down to male planners, it's so unfair. The queues for that loo stretch right through ladies raincoats and out the other side!

My cynical mind thought of a reason why there are more men's los than women's:
Planners realise that men are more likely than women to relieve themselves elsewhere if they have to wait

I too accidentally used the men's loos recently. However, it wasn't the number of cubicles or urinals that alerted me to my mistake, but the overpowering smell of urine!

Our local Tesco (large, 24hrs) only has two cubicles and one working hand dryer for the ladies. Next time I go I'll sent DH to the gents to see if their facilities are any better. If they are, I'll be speaking to the manager.

Me too. Only DBH isn't sure that I have the number of washbasins right, he thinks there are only two, so we need another visit to make sure of our facts. I think there are two high and one low.
