Being a silly old Granny

As a lot of people on Gransnet know, I live in the Granny flat in DDs and SILs house.
The education system is different here to the UK, Children can start full-time education from 2.5 years. This is called Maternalle and is free and part of the main education system.
DGS is 3, DD SIL and I have been his life really.
I am now being totally selfish as he has a place in a really good School starting in September.
It is normal here for Children to go to Cherche then Maternalle from about 3 months.
The government really put money into it and Maternalle is part of the Primary system, you can put you children from 7.30am to 18.30pm free.
I am just being really stupid, wee man is watching The Sword in the Stone,
Is there a slap round the face silly Grandma on this.
Oh the School is just 4 mins walk.
I am just being silly, never did that with my own, and DD was down with a bottle of wine yesterday when she got the news.

You are not being silly Felice, it's natural that you will miss him, as you have helped care for him for so long.three is very young though isn't it?They go to nursery here at that age but usually only a couple of mornings a week, unless the mother has to work.I always think there is no substitute for young children being with Mum or Grandma at that age but that is my opinion.Children here used to go to school at aged 5 but now it is 4. now and then they are still in nappies! cheer up though , hopefully he will like it and make some friends.

Pre school in the UK starts at 3. If it's attached to a school they have to attend 5 mornings or afternoons a week or they loose their place. It's only private nurseries where you can choose how often they attend.

My DD can't wait until October, when youngest DGS turns three. He will go to nursery school five mornings per week. At last she will have some time to herself. I remember when my son started school. I went home, stood in my kitchen and said to myself "now, what shall I do first". I think I spent the day baking.

Time for DD and SiL to produce another DGC for you?? I don't think you're being silly at all. I was so sad to see my GSs off to fulltime childcare from such an early age. I'm old fashioned but I agree with rosearered!

Jane10 unfortunately that is not going to happen, we were lucky to get the one we have.
He is now snoozing on the sofa in front of the Tour de France,
He will love School and needs it really, I am just being selfish.
DS2 is estranged and have no contact at all so this wee man is ultra special.
