Don't say that word.

Nope, no words we don't like, but after watching a Hyacinth Bucket episode years ago about a party on the riverside, we all tried to use the word riparian as often as we could.

One of Bil's ex-wives was very fond of the expression 'costs more money - but worth it' and all three of our DDs used to have a competition to see who could get her to say it first!

It is funny how phrases go into family parlance. e.g. " it slod off", meaning something slipped, and "P would like that!" - not sure how that crept in, but the children say I used to say it a lot in reference to one of my DDs. And "That's the badger" - from a client who said it and we were all amused by it - it means that's right.

I am not aware of any that we do not like, apart from "doodah" as my Dad used to say it endlessly, referring to things whose name he had forgotten - "Oh you know, the doodah!"

I have a couple of words I hate - mainly because it usually means I have hit my thumb with a hammer

Pregnant is such an ugly word used to describe something incredible and amazing.

A friend and I often say 'only the best', when referring to a purchase, because a rather snobbish acquaintance uses the expression all the time.

DGS6 loves the word 'moist' (a Bake-Off fan). I beat him to it when tasting the Banoffee Marshmallow cake which DD2 made for my birthday.

DD says 'That's the badger'

OH can't bear to hear the word Gillemot have no idea why but if they come on tv he either turns the sound down or leaves the room.. he also said it makes him squirm...
I do find occasions to use it if he's annoyed me..

My middle dgd can't bear the word 'sticker', and can't bear to touch one or have one stuck on her! Littlest dgd of course gets her stickers out right away and tries to get one on her!

DD2 can't bear the word 'batter' as in batter on food. She was sick once years and years ago having eaten some. We have to say the 'b' word if we ever talk about batter

Lona DD2 has a strong aversion to stickers and price labels - I have seen her be nearly sick having to peel one off and certainly wont eat a piece of fruit that has had a sticker on it.

My DH calls our utility room a 'scullery'. I really really really loathe that word. It makes me shudder! Ugh!

For me there is just one word that I really can't stand- any time between the 26th of December and about mid November at the earliest! (don't you dare!)

When DDs were teenagers I couldn't stand the word 'so' when used in the following contexts.

"You haven't done your homework."
"So."

"Your bedroom needs sorting."
"So."

"You haven't had any lunch."
"So."

"You've used all the milk and not told me."
"So."

You can start the conversation with any sentence a parent might say to a teenager.

I don't like the word 'tasty' and have never used it. It makes no sense to me - everything we eat tastes of something. Yes, it does actually make me shudder...

Ana you'd actually be surprised but we do watch a lot of wildlife programs, I particularly like ones with seabirds..

Sorry tanith, I just meant in the general course of tv watching! Of course if you watch a lot of wildlife programmes it must be an ever-present risk for your DH
