I live in Wiltshire and would like to meet up with people who are interested in going to browse round antique fairs, meals out, going on walks, to the Coast etc. I am interested in the countryside, plants and flowers, birds and animals. I also metal detect. I have a reasonable number of friends and good family around me, but need to meet up with others of similar interests.
I drive, but don't particularly like it, so, if someone was happy to drive would be willing to contribute to costs.

Hallo Leah have you thought of joining some groups locally like a Civic or Historical Society or U3A - your local library will have the contact details.

Leah11 Tue 21-Apr-15 14:14:42

Thank you Teetime, will have a look.

Perhaps I should widen this conversation. I am a widow, trying to be active at weekends etc. and build on existing interests.

I do not think I am particularly good at expressing myself smile (as with other posts) I want to go out maybe some evenings or weekends, and go shopping, go to a show, antiques fairs, walk along the beach, etc. I am looking for people who may be in a similar situation as me, not for any romance, just to enjoy each others company and having a lovely day out. Male or female.

Try looking for your 'local' site in the links above, there may be something in there that you like, and perhaps a meet-up of other gransnetters in your area.

Leah11 Tue 21-Apr-15 17:16:15

Thank you janerowena smile

Do you have a local 'Meet Up' association in your area? I discovered loads of them up here covering masses of topics.

I joined a Meet Up in my area but because of my health I couldn't get to many meets and then the organiser asked me to change my picture online to one of myself instead of a penguin I had put on ( I am not tech savvi and so couldn't find my photos) or else I would be taken off the site. I was attending to my dad moving house etc and didn't have the time to ask my son to help me change pic and so they told me I was rude not to have complied and took me off the site. I did reply that I was attending to an elderly man with dementia and he took priority over a photo on their site and that if that was how they operate, then I was better off without them.

rubylady , surely not a GN meet up? shock I can't imagine anyone here being so horrid!

bikergran Wed 22-Apr-15 19:15:22

shocked!! rubylady that doesn't sound like GN at all....as some people don't have pics on their profile, that was very rude of them ruby !

Soutra Wed 22-Apr-15 19:17:30

That is appalling! Not your local GN surely?

Leah11 Wed 22-Apr-15 19:38:23

I am very rurally situated. My nearest Town is Marlborough.

loopylou Wed 22-Apr-15 20:05:56

I didn't know there were meet ups in Wiltshire! I haven't seen on on the local site.
I'm the other side from you Leah, near to Bath.

Ana Wed 22-Apr-15 20:07:31

I think rubylady meant a Meet Up group local to her, nothing to do with Gransnet Local.

loopylou Wed 22-Apr-15 20:12:15

I couldn't believe it would be a GN one.....

Agus Wed 22-Apr-15 20:14:24

If these are their petty rules rubylady, I don't imagine their meet ups being a bundle of laughs! Absolutely better off without them.

rubylady Thu 23-Apr-15 14:35:47

No, it was nothing to do with GN, it was a Meet Up local group. I have had very positive support on GN since I joined and spoke to many lovely people. smile

Phew, from one very relieved penguin grin

Hi I live on the Fylde coast of lancashire, and am looking to meet up with like minded people like myself who use a mobility scooter I have arthritic probs And don't like to be shut indoors too much, I can go to most places if I can get Door to door transport, meanwhile I use my Mob/scooter to go to the seaside of st annes and Fairhaven Lake. I also like shopping whenever shops allow Mob/scooters to enter. I do hope to hear from you if your in the same boat as me,or indeed if you want to chat about topics I have wrote about that would be fine too.

Leah11 Fri 24-Apr-15 12:17:04

Well, there seems to be a distinct lack of avenues in Wiltshire smile Was thinking of setting something up :/

bikergran Wed 29-Apr-15 17:42:09

Dsim I think there will be a North West meet up again soon, I know there has been one quite recently and it was actualy in Lytham St Annes, if you search for North West meet I'm sure it should come up. I myself haven't been to a meet as yet, but I do have a ride to Lytham occasionally with a friend on our Motorcycles. Just keep your eyes peeles on the forum, for any meets that may be coming up..and welcome to GN smile
