One's onesie

I was given a onesie for Christmas but it didn't come with any instructions. I do know that one can wear one's onesie to Tesco's as long as one wears flip flops and has a fag in mouth, but I need to know onesie etiquette, like:
What does one wear underneath?
Does one wear it to bed?
How does one go to the loo without sitting there half-naked and chilly?
Is it supposed to be comfy? Because it isn't.

One's not sure one's ready for the babygro look. Should one persevere?

I got one too! Mine is soft, cosy and I love it apart from the going to the loo bit tchgrin

We had a onesie family day on Boxing Day , it was great fun almost everyone came in their onesie, I borrowed one from DH as I don't have one, he bought himself an Elf onesie and we had a rabbit and batman.

I'd wear underwear underneath
No its too hot to wear in bed
You can't unless like us the bathroom is very warm
Everyone was very comfy as was I, but mine was big and very comfy so maybe yours is a bit snug and thats why its uncomfortable... they are perfect to put on if you aren't going out and not expecting visitors.... tchgrin

I bought one for DD last Xmas. I got a very warm one as she is a chilly mortal and she reckons my house is cold (it isn't) It's stuffed in a cupboard now. No one bothers to put it on. A blanket is easier when sitting.

I cannot see the point in them because every person is a different shape anyway. Trying to get such a garment to fit anywhere is pretty impossible.

Never mind that no one looks good in them anyway. They might be improved by getting them tailored to fit.

A friend bought me a onesie this Christmas. It will be heading to the charity shop next week, I'm afraid.

I bought one for myself from Sainsburys, it only cost £5, so nothing lost if I didn't like it. I bought the biggest size so it's very roomy and comfy, too warm to sleep in though and I won't be appearing in public wearing it anytime soon. Wear your onesies with pride ladies. smile

What happened to the fur trimmed baby doll (keeps your neck warm)

Mine is a £7 tiger version from Primani, and I have tiger slippers to match. I love it. I only got it for our choir concert where 3 of us sang 'All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth'. It is so cosy for lolling about of an evening. A bit of a chilly faff when going to the loo.

I haven't got a onesie - not really me, but I have got a fleecy topsy and bottomsy (from Asda) which have been wonderful during the recent cold spell. I sleep naked and the top is great when sitting up in bed, as I am now. I cast it off at lights out and keep it to hand for when I wake up then sling on the bottomsy for modesty when I get up for my cup of tea. I wouldn't sleep in it but it has been a good buy and cheap too tchwink

Juliette Mon 29-Dec-14 23:43:28

Pooh, that seems like a better option Marmight no chilly toilet trips.

Juliette Mon 29-Dec-14 23:45:07

Oh dear, especially if you want a pooh! blush

FarNorth Mon 29-Dec-14 23:45:26

That's what I thought, Marmight. tchsmile
I saw onesies on sale and they looked really cosy but the undressing-for-a-pee bit is kind of off-putting and I thought "surely a fleecy top & bottom would be a better idea!"

I bought DS one this year (his request) he is obviously not standard shape as it's short in the torso, talk about a 'wedgy' tchgrin it wasn't cheep either !

I bought one online, forgot to change my address as I hit the "buy" button and so my lovely snuggly bear has gone to my old address and I am left without. I do hope someone who now lives there has a great time in it at my expense!

(I did get in touch with customer services before it was dispatched but told they could not change the address on the order. No more buying from Bon Marche for me!)

I had a onesie from 'back home' in 1970- it was bright orange, with feet on, like a giant babygrow. Had it for years and years- I wore it for a fancy dress party in 79, I think, with a pair of big baggy frilly pants (versize tennis pants) over- and a dummy. LOL very fetching (I was skinny then)- and it must have gone in the bin after that.

We bought DD1 a tartan onesie when she was sharing a Victorian conversion near Aston Uni with other students, she had one of the attic rooms and it was freezing - she loved it. We hired a cottage in the Cotswolds just after her graduation, and she used to sit with the dog (her all time favourite) on the patio, in his basket, onesie on. And the old lady who owned the place said to her 'Have you taken yor O'levels yet Claire?'- she was 22.

DD2 bought herself and both her niece and nephew a onesie for Xmas- and they lived in them ever since. DD1 and family have just gone home, but DD2 is on the settee in hers...

Best if I don't indulge in one though;) (size 18 + Xmas indulgence).

Never lived in a house with a warm enough loo or bathroom..........

glammanana Tue 30-Dec-14 15:48:15

I would be lost without mine I bought another one just before xmas a deep pink with scottie dogs all over I love it,if I am at home all day I will shower first thing and put one on for the day I always wear with bra & pants and buy a size bigger as they should be loose and comfy,I don't care if anyone unexpected arrives or knocks at the door as long as I'm warm and comfortable I'm not worried.Just now wearing a grey spotty one bought from Matalan with a hood and rabbit ears last year another came from Asda,no chance of being chilly in this house thats for sure.
