What do Scarecrows smoke? (I've not read the book)

The scarecrow in question is clearly an immigrant benefits scrounger snd the wedding a marriage of convenience. Julia Donaldson is of course well known for her gritty reality(what do you mean, theres no such thing a a Gruffalo?)

Never mind the smoking. I thought children had to be taught to share. Why aren't the two scarecrows made to take turns with the lady scarecrow?

I realise that the Hobbit and Lord of the Rings weren't written for children but would point out that tobacco looms large in Hobbit lore. Did they - hobbits, dwarves and Gandalf - smoke in the film?
