I'm just watching an American history program (sic) about 'the American Stonehenge' they have just made the most amazing discovery that if you extrapolate a line between the two sunrise/sunset stones between their site and our Stonehenge they both are on the same line!
Of course they are. The sun travels from East to West.
Grrrrrrrr

Not amazing that they are both on the same line, but amazing that similar henges were built on separate continents.

Because it now goes through Beirut they say there must be a link with the Phoenicicians!
Even more Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

All part of humans' inbuilt desire to seek patterns where none exist.

You've been watching the Turin Shroud!

Must be ley lines then.

More cod archaeology, I must go out and look for the tunnel linking our church with the abbey 5 miles away across the flood plain.

rosequartz Sun 03-Aug-14 13:05:31

Perhaps there is a tunnel under the Atlantic linking Stonehenge with the one in America hmm

Elegran Sun 03-Aug-14 13:56:10

If you draw enough lines in all directions from anywhere they go through enough points that you will eventually hit on somewhere else similar. Has anyone pointed this out to the "archeologists"?

Galen Sun 03-Aug-14 14:02:15

If you build buildings that face E-W at solstice, of course they're going to be on the same line. Something this American chap doesn't seem to have grasped. I know he was a geologist , but?

Elegran Sun 03-Aug-14 14:03:57

He is no good at basic geography, Galen or even basic logic.

Galen Sun 03-Aug-14 14:05:32

Quite. Mind you he's not British (poor man)

sunseeker Sun 03-Aug-14 14:18:04

Doesn't New York have something called Manhattan Henge? Something to do with the setting sun lining up with the main street grid or something?

Elegran Sun 03-Aug-14 14:33:39

Any day now someone will come up with a theory that the Manhattan Henge is a continuation of Main Street Atlantis, with the other end finishing at (the one and only) Stonehenge.

rosequartz Sun 03-Aug-14 14:44:00

The first trans-continental railways went from east to west, didn't it? shock

FlicketyB Sun 03-Aug-14 16:08:26

Rosequartz You must have read my book! I am now researching its continuation to the pyramids, via Brittany and Malta! grin

Galen Sun 03-Aug-14 17:19:26

Doesn't it go through on of the Shintp temples?

rosequartz Sun 03-Aug-14 18:09:27

Please may I have a signed first edition FlicketyB!

I can add it to my bookcase next to the one by the man who built Stonehenge (single -handedly apparently)
grin

FlicketyB Sun 03-Aug-14 18:37:06

No, that's the Pacific tunnel. That one starts from one of the Mexican temples, cannot, offhand, remember which.

rosesarered Sun 03-Aug-14 18:43:05

If you do FlicketyB be sure to wear your wellies [the tunnels to the Abbey] as you go across the flood plain [you can call in at Tesco on your way!]

FlicketyB Sun 03-Aug-14 19:00:40

Probably need scuba equipment in any tunnel in the Vale, the water table seems to be only inches below ground level.
