It's feeling dark and cold here!

it's also the week for family members getting up early – Minibags clattered to the loo at four thirty and decided to have a shower (clatter, crash, bang) at five thirty. As DD2 said on her last visit: "she hasn't learned how to be sneaky yet". I suppose I should be pleased about that

I don't mind getting up early. I'm usually up first. Have been all my life. Nobody else seems to be able to do it quietly though.

Good morning from East Sussex. What a windy night! Seems calm at the moment and no rain or frost but due to rain later.
Booked a short break away so now need to loose weight so the summer clothes will fit!

Dark and wet here in Mid-Sussex, but quite mild.
Sitting here with my morning cuppa, and have lounge window and front door open a tad for the cats, and not feeling the need for a blanket round my knees
Lovely to hear all the birds round about too, they are very vocal this morning!

Off to work in a bit, then taking the eldest GS home from school (weekly treat), with a quick drop-in to the Great grand-parents on the way for his supply of 'Big-Grannys flap-jack'.! He won't eat anyone elses version, or shop-bought, so she does him a batch once a month

I didn't realise a 90th birthday party could be so exhausting and I intend to take things slowly today

Except, DGD2, who is here for the week, seems to be developing chickenpox - deep joy!

Good morning from Cheshire. The sky is clear with a few light clouds at present. I am not convinced it will last. The sun is not yet over the neighbour's blasted leylandi.

It has rained heavily all night in NW London but it is now dry and I can see a blue sky. Apparently this will not last. Deep joy. I have organised lunch for 18 in a local restaurant today- to date 5 have chickened out. If anybody moans about anything, God help them and that will be their chore for next year.

Good morning to you all, I'm a bit late today owing to the baking of DGD birthday cake. Its in the oven and smells great but I'll bet it will not taste as good. Up really early this morning nursing my sore ribs, paracetamol doesn't seem to ease the pain any. Any suggestions out there, I am a bit of a miserable git this morning. Thick fog here, hope it doesn't last all day. Hope your day was good yesterday Kitty.

My worry about the chicken-pox [apart from me catching it and itching!!) is maybe having, albeit inadvertently, introduced it to Mum's fellow residents.

KittyL Have you never had it? It can be nasty for adults. I think some areas are trying a shingles vaccine for older people. It might sort your mum and friends if they are likely to be exposed.

Good morning from a bright north east. it rained heavily during the night. Going out to lunch with elder and younger sister, a rare treat as one works full time and the other lives abroad.

A late good morning. It was lovely first thing but now it's turned into one of those grey nothingness winter days which I HATE. Just spent longer than I'd like shredding Seville oranges for marmalade. Anyone know if using a food processor is a feasible option?

Yes, food processor works but is less controllable - it can turn in seconds from very chunky to mush. FiL always used the mincer after cooking the fruit soft, and I copied him for a long time. Now I use the food processor but keep a beady eye on the consistency.

If your food processor has slicing discs, you can cut the oranges into chunks and feed them through the discs. This will give you satisfactory shreds and mush up the flesh.
