I'm always very wary of books or films that are hyped to the 90s, usually they are awful. As soon as I saw the hype this book got, I knew to avoid it like the plague. I think more will come out, seems to have been much in the 'smoke and mirrors ' department going on.

I gave up reading the book half way through as I just didn't believe the author and I didn't like her much either.
I can't explain why I felt as I did and when a friend asked me to see the film with her I had to decline. I havn't read the Observer article but I will now!!

I agree with buffyfly. I just didn’t feel that things were true when I read the book. I have no intention of seeing the film and feel totally vindicated for my opinion when the whole debacle started.
Feels very like the “Major Tom” business- except that his inflation and promotion was done by his now disgraced daughter.

I've read the whole article in the Observer! I feel totally vindicated in my scepticism of this woman; several of my friends (who pronounced the book to be marvelous) were a little scathing towards me when I declined to watch the film. I hope all the people who helped her along her "journey" see her, and him, for what they are.

Completely agree. The name changes alone are fishy. The only surprise is that none of the North Wales connections spoke out sooner.

I saw the film and have started the book now I'm thinking its a modern day fairy tale.

Just read the article. So glad I didn’t bother with the book. Wonder what will happen now! Will they not have to account for their behaviour?

I’ll give it a miss , not keen on fraudulent claims.

I hope they pay back those they owe money to....but doubt it.
Didn't like the book at all. I bought myself a copy plus 2 for friends before I read it.

Ditched all 3 copies. Won't buy before I read again. I didn't believe a word.

In today’s news, the publishers have said they DID act with due diligence.

I can’t believe that. I have been skimming through my copies of the SP and The Wild Silence and there is hardly any information about her past. As I said before even in the “About The Author” there is so little. People usually like to say where they spent their childhood, what unusual jobs they had etc before writing books.

In TWS she mentions looking for work when someone kindly offered them a room in an old chapel. She said she applied for every job she saw going locally. I reckon she couldn’t find work because she could hardly supply references for her job as a book keeper. 🤣

I’m not surprised the cider farm man is not happy. He let them live there for four years for a peppercorn rent and all they did in the book was moan about the state of the place! He was also shocked when Moth put his head in his hands and told him he hadn’t got long left! This was in 2021 after they had done the walk and the first book was published both of which claimed his health was restored.

There is a documentary on Sky tonight with the latest discoveries on this pair of fakers. An investigative journalist has unearthed much more from relatives, family and friends. She even stole from her Mother according to a niece.

Unfortunately we don’t have Sky but the story is in today’s DM.

Thanks for this. I will watch it. Like many people I was reeled in by the book and thoroughly enjoyed what was supposed to be a true story. I was intending to see the film but didn't as it was being reported that perhaps things did not happen in the way Raynor Winn would have us believe. Neither her or her husband come across a truthful people so I will watch tonight to learn more.

I was going to see the film with friends back in the summer but decided against it when the articles exposing their deception and fraud were all over the media.
You can now get the film on Amazon Prime so I watched it last night, deciding to treat it as fiction and not be drawn in by their claims.
As a story it’s slow and repetitive. They were just a self centred couple with no endearing qualities.
I’m glad I decided not to sit through it in the cinema.

Out in f curiosity I started to watch the film on Amazon. Fifteen minutes in I gave up. Very,very boring.

Can you update us please Sarnia when you have watched it.
