Stockpiling?

My friends Mum has a large walk in “brexit cupboard” she has been squirrelling essentials away for the past year or so,medical supplies as well as long life food stuffs etc.

No, what do they thinks going to happen for goodness sake? ?

Sorry but I find this totally ridiculous and it leads to shortages of things It’s like at Christmas when people buy for a fortnight and throw half of it away It will probably do us all a bit of good aren’t so many fat people in less affluent societies
I will buy whatever is available if and when doomsday arrives

It's a self - fulfilling prophecy,but at least it's long-life goods being purchased so not so much waste.

As I've grown older I find I do the opposite to hoarding! I no longer buy multiples of anything unless it's a BOGOF. I buy a new Kitchen roll when the old one still has a few sheets left and a new pack of toilet rolls when the last roll is on the holder. Shops are open everyday so it's easy to pop out and get a few bits as you need them.
This whole 'stocking up for Brexit' reminds me of the panic around the Milennium and we all know what happened then! As BlueBelle said a little less food will harm very few !

No I'm not stockpiling. I don't have faith in Brexit or in the current crop of politicians to make it any less awful but, I can't believe we need to stock up on tinned goods.

I will be in big trouble, I live on Ensure, can’t stock pile that it’s on prescription.

There’s been a discussion on Mumsnet recently on this subject. There didn’t seem to be any panic, but apparently quite a few people are buying in a few extra packs of nappies, tinned stuff, etc, now just in case there are any temporary supply issues or panic buying when Brexit happens. I suspect there will be panic buying - a couple of snow days can cause that - so it seems sensible. Doing it now, moderately and gradually, will help avoid shortages rather than cause them. I might buy an extra multipack of beans this week, just in case.

I bought a 6 pack of tinned chopped tomatoes the other day - does that count? They were on offer!

Probably the same people who create havoc at Christmas by emptying the shelves into their trolleys.
I would rather do without than join in with panic buying, I haven't starved in the last 72 years and seriously doubt if I will in the next few months.

As Maggie says, If it goes ahead, then I think there may well be a few days or weeks of disruption until new systems are in place. I have always kept a bit of a reserve cupboard but I have added a few things, such as cat food, for which there is no alternative. It will always come in useful!

I have never thought of stockpiling- as others have said, if something is unavailable I will do without. I doubt if I will starve.

Last year we stock piled, well made sure cupboards and freezer were full when warned that the beast from the east was about to strike.❄⛄

I must admit to being slightly concerned that I might have to fry everything in British butter instead of olive oil.
And we might have to start using salad cream instead of homemade olive oil/balsamic dressing

I'm really not concerned about foodstuffs - I'm sure we'll all manage with whatever's available. But God help me if toilet rolls disappear off the shelves

On the Frugal thread I posted that this type of shopping is the norm for me-----unnecessary ! It's a habit. I live alone !
