Just watching the morning news on BBC1 and of course is all about the heatwave. The section about schools starts by showing a close up of two children’s backsides in shorts - presumably in gym kit - the boys backside in longer shorts but the girls backside in very short shorts.
Why on earth is this being used??!!

Sago Wed 24-Jun-26 09:40:49

The BBC don’t think but not do some parents, I was in Waitrose one Saturday morning and a man walked in with his daughter of about 12/13 in just a leotard.

Also why do they send reporters to stand out in the sun when we're all being told to stay inside

For the same reason they send reporters out in the high winds/ snow/ floods. They believe they have to let us lesser mortals know what’s going on outside our front door.

I watched earlier children walking to the local primary school in similar attire Fallingstar.
There is a balance between over sexualising young children and normal clothing, I wouldn’t have wanted my children or grandchildren frightened into ‘covering up’ in case of?
Most molested children are assaulted by a family member or close family friend.

And they never wear a hat.

Jaxjacky I agree 👍🏻

It’s hot, let them wear what they are comfortable in.

I think the BBC have a nerve showing close ups of any member of the public just innocently walking past tbh.

Of course young children should be able to wear short shorts or skimpy dresses etc., in hot weather. But is very different when the BBC focuses primarily on the backside of a young school age girl wearing short shorts, whilst the boy beside her wears much longer shorts.
Why take such a shot at all??

Fallingstar Wed 24-Jun-26 11:08:47

And it is not about the danger of a young girl being physically molested etc., the photo did not show her face just her backside and her hand holding a swinging water bottle. It is the danger of certain men viewing this and downloading it for their own twisted purposes.

AGAA4 Wed 24-Jun-26 11:17:22

I agree Fallingstar it was inappropriate.

I haves just returned from our nearest market town, the main car park had at least half a dozen white vans pulled up with men inside, it was 3.30 and lots of teenage schoolgirls with rolled up shirts and skirts were walking toward Tesco.

I watched the men watching the girls.

I’m afraid like it or not there are many perverts.

I caught one pervert in a busy shopping centre filming young girls, security were useless.

Never be complacent.

You were also watching teenage schoolgirls with rolled up shirts and shorts.

You were also watching men.

Are you a pervert? Or just a people watcher?

Watching girls or men is not proof of sexual perversion.

I think you’re looking for problems, OP. Why the comparison between the lengths of the children’s shorts? I haven’t seen the photo, but it’s an innocuous-sounding image appropriate to the present hot weather.

Essexgirl145 Thu 25-Jun-26 14:05:47

Sago........you don't have to brand someone as a pervert because they are looking a young girls, that's natural male . I admire beautiful young men in a way that only an old woman can, that does'nt make me a pervert.

I would beg to differ. The photo did not show the child in full from the back alongside the other child from a distance, it was just of the schoolgirls bum in short shorts, with the hand in shot swinging a water bottle, and I mentioned the length of the shorts because why show the boy in longer looser fitting shorts and the girl in tighter fitting short shorts, is essential not to sexualise girls from an early age.
Of course is appropriate to show children in summer clothes but not appropriate to zoom in on a young girl’s bottom.
I might be making a fuss about nothing but is a fuss worth making imho.

I too am surprised to see so many reporters and interviewees not wearing sunhats.

I think that is beginning to change. We are living in a different age. The kaleidoscope of our lives has turned a notch and at first, no-one noticed.

Hunros Thu 25-Jun-26 14:43:42

Exactly! And how many "perverted" women are reported each year? (and how many get away with it)

jakuss Thu 25-Jun-26 14:49:13

Look around you , girls and women all wear next to nothing, bare midriff, bra tops, tights showing camels toe, etc I ha e even seen them showing stkockings and suspenders, think Little Mix, no one bats an eyelid, all modesty is gone

eazybee Thu 25-Jun-26 14:58:15

.You would be surprised at how many children are allowed, even encouraged into sexualised clothes with the full support of their parents.: oh, she looks so grown up. They pay for them. This at primary school.

sandelf Thu 25-Jun-26 14:58:52

Girls are conditioned from a very early age to 'know' that as little clothing as possible and as tight as possible is what is 'right' for them. It needs to change and starts with adults wearing clothes that do not serve only to show body shape. i was 'cool' with it until I took up archery - then realised that most men could choose from stuff in ordinary shops but I had to really work to find stuff if for a day in the field.

Primrose53 Thu 25-Jun-26 15:46:59

A lot of these young kids wear these very tight lycra type shorts which are more like knickers. They are skin tight and have a wide seam up the back between your bum cheeks.
