Single holidays

I feel your pain. as a lone traveler I've had to pay double the price to join my brother and his extended family on a cruise next year. Im paying what he and his wife are paying. I expected the single person supplement but this just seems a bit over the top.

The worst part is after paying a single supplement you are then put into a tiny room probably overlooking the bins. If I do have to pay extra then at the very least give me the same treatment a couple get.

I have never understood how they can justify single supplements anyway, as the rooms could never be given to a couple anyway. I have been on my own for just over 2 years and find the worst offenders are hotels in UK and cruise lines. Like trendygran says a single person on a cruise will pay the same as a couple. With more people now being single, whether by choice or not, I think the travel industry is going to have to start catering to our needs

WHY is there such a thing, when the room you get is clearly for single occupancy?
Fair enough if you are reserving a double or twin room for single occupancy, but most of the time they are not. It's a rip-off, pure and simple!

Excellent idea NannaAnna. If we're put into tiny single bedded rooms, why pay a single supplement.

I was worried I was going to end up sleeping in a lifeboat or the likes on the cruise but we've had our cabin allocation and I'm right next door to my brother. Mind you I'm still hoping there will be a big bed instead of a single just because I'm travelling without my husband.

I end up having a massive cabin with very large bed usually. I'll try and post a picky on the picture thread!

I hate this .. I usually ask for a single room on the special interest holidays I go on. In general they are in very short supply in the Guest houses or small hotels we use, so sharing is often unavoidable.
Whatever happens we should never have to pay double the price if we don't eat extra food. Yes the single rooms do usually over look the bins.

Will support a Gransnet 'Single Supplement' campaign without a second thought! Yesterday the part I found hardest was the fact that,even trying to book TEN MONTHS IN ADVANCE , I was as good as rejected for being on my own.
