I’m struggling to understand if this government scheme would apply to me.
I work for a local post office that is franchised, my boss has decided to sell up and it seems that he has a prospective buyer.
Does anyone know if the new owner has to keep me employed or can I just be ‘let go’ entitilled to redundancy etc. I’ve only 2 1/2 years to state pension so don’t rate my chances of another job.

Oh,, it may depend on who actually employs you. Sounds like the franchise owner. Do you have a contract? The answer may be in there.

Thanks PECS, never had a contract?? but I’ve been there since ‘94 and been asleep since then. Employed by franchise owner.

I don't believe the fact that you have no written contract matters. You have an implied contract.

Ring ACAS and Google their guidance.

TUPE means Transfer Undertakings of Permanent Staff or near enough. Roughly it means that if you have worked somewhere and the new owner continues a similar business he is obliged to offer you a job with the same T and C's as before. I'm not sure though whether this applies to any size of business or only large ones. Sorry not to be of more help.

Agree with oldgimmer, phone ACAS. The staff are very helpful and will give accurate advice. It can be reassuring to have a phone conversation rather than rely on information on the web. Hope it all works out for you.

Just rung ACAS, they say my employment will transfer over and sending me an email to show to my employer.
