Just a reminder that the revamped Strictly starts tonight, 7.25pm.

I’ve posted this as Sparklefizz, who always kicked Strictly off, is no longer here, sadly.

RIP Sparklefizz.

As always, I'm enjoying "Strictly", it's an easy watch that takes us effortlessly & comfortably through Autumn into Winter!
I do think Shaun was the right choice to leave, although I'd got to know who he was!! I've taken ages to get to know the 'celebs', (before they get voted off!!) & there does seem to have been a lot of 'dressing-up, so next week's Halloween will throw me again! confused

Right result I think

I think Shaun was relieved to go.

He didn’t look to be enjoying it at all.

rafichagran Sun 25-Oct-26 23:48:43

Right result in the dance off. I have to say I now like the presenters. Emma and Johanes are good. Josh is growing on me.

My Mother used to love come dancing. It was good for its time, however things change and I like the way it is now. I would like to see some of chat and going in the teaching studios taken out and as that part is tedious.

JenniRen Sun 25-Oct-26 21:49:28

Yes, Josh is a well-known entertainer, hosts programmes and makes guest appearances on other programmes too.
However, I'm not sure he's entirely comfortable with this although he is improving.

The right result I think, although Shaun was so much better in the dance-off than he was last night.

It is a dance competition but the contestants are 'celebrities' which means some of their fan clubs influence the voting. Dani Dyer should have gone tonight; she is not a good dancer, but I think some of the votes were to keep Nikita which is fine by me. (I admire his dancing, obviously.)

Ive only just bothered to have a look at this year's Strictly. Have to say when i saw little Josh standing next to the willowy glamorous Emma, I nearly died laughing. It looks like a sixth former has brought along a tiny new first former as a mascot!
Emma is the consumate professional but Josh? Purlease! He's a barely known minor comic...what on earth is the Beeb tbinking?
And as for Johannes, far far too camp for the role to take seriously...made me cringe...and hit the off button.

Anyone who has a sell out show at the London Palladium, appears on countless TV shows and whose podcast is one of the most popular could hardly be described as a "barely known minor comic".

Casdon Sun 25-Oct-26 20:48:56

I agree. He looked so disappointed though.

My manger and his wife were regulars on Come Dancing.
They had their own Dance School.
He would often ask my overseer if he could borrow me when he was working out a formation sequence.

There are 8 more weeks of Strictly 2026.
I’m sure Josh and Jo-Jo have contracts for the duration and it seems pretty obvious the presenters will be changed for the 2027.
The BBC are axing many programmes next year to save money and 3 presenters are at least 1 unnecessary wage being paid.
Harsh - yes, but realistic.

I always vote for the one who makes me smile, which is usually the underdog. This year it's Shaun who might not be the best but I like to watch him. I remember voting for Dave the Hairy Biker a few years ago because he was so much fun to watch.

I don’t vote (I don’t see the point - I let the judges decide). Mind you is it about a proper dancing competition or is it an entertainment programme? 🤷‍♀️

I can’t quite follow the concept of it all to be honest.

I like it better now there are less contestants and a shorter programme. I feel I’m staring to know who is who.

I liked Dani Dyer tonight. I thought she was amazing. Very brave in her acrobatics! Just wow! To be honest I did think at first (my friend and I were chatting!) that SHE was the professional dancer.

I think Kai and D…. (can’t remember her name) might win. But it’s early days. And it seems the public vote (fickle and for favourites) counts a lot and can swing it.

I think it’s both, a competition AND (great) entertainment.

What I don’t like though, is the voting public being able to save their favourites and I get quite upset when the better dancer goes home! Irrationally so!

I love Delta, Dani has improved considerably, and I’ve really warmed to her, I adore “dog man (sorry) and I like Lacey.

The new format is growing on me and I think we just have to adjust and no one ever (in my eyes) will ever be as good as Bruce.

I love the judges, think they fit well with each other and all know tons about dance and choreography.

Bring it on!!

JenniRen Sun 25-Oct-26 10:53:42

Bruce: "You're my favourite!"

The show should be about the contestants and their partners not about the judges showing off.

I dread to think what the four of them will be wearing next week.

Silvershadow Sun 25-Oct-26 10:43:21

Yes he could. He was quick off the mark, made people laugh, turned a little crisis into part of the show.

I liked Tess Daly. I always thought she was very professional. Claudia I didn’t like too much.

All of them were so much better than what we’ve got now. Darcy Bussell, Len, even Bruno, so much more accomplished.

Calendargirl Sun 25-Oct-26 10:24:31

when Bruce was presenting and what a fantastic host and ad libber he was

Always remember on one of the early shows, it was Mark Ramprakash and Karen somebody (they went on to win).

Halfway through their dance, their mics got tangled up and they had to stop. Bruce dashed on, they begged to be allowed to restart. Bruce checked if that was ok, (time restraints) and the bosses said yes, they could.

Enter some random wardrobe woman to sort out the mics, Bruce said “Who are you?”, she laughed, and Bruce grabbed her and did a few twirls with her.

Huge laughs, the show carried on.

Yes, Bruce kept going too long, when he was rather ‘past it’, but by jove, in his hey day he could teach some of the modern tv presenters a thing or two.

TerriBull Sun 25-Oct-26 09:31:48

I dipped into Strictly yesterday, for the last few years, I've not been a regular viewer. I think all the interim chit chat and staged nonsense skits between the dances need to be got rid of, they're just unnecessary padding making it far too long. I thought the 3 hosts did an ok job, I've read somewhere BBC are thinking of replacing them, give them a chance are my thoughts on that. As for the dances I thought Delta and Tabby were both outstanding and should, but not necessarily, go the distance.

Silvershadow Sun 25-Oct-26 09:23:12

I’ve watched Strictly from the first ever show. I’ve also been lucky enough to be in the audience once when Bruce was presenting and what a fantastic host and ad libber he was.

Now, I don’t like the screaming, I mute Motsi, and turn the sound down low for the upstairs segment. The new hosts are not cutting the mustard. Emma is fine, the two men not so.

The only part where I have the sound up is for the actual dancing and judges comments apart from Motsi and her shouting,

The show has lost its way in my opinion.

TillyTrotter Sun 25-Oct-26 09:09:35

Yes, simpler times 😃

Ooh! You have taken me down memory lane. I loved those ballroom dresses they wore. A friend's sister, who was a 'card punch operator' used to take part and would drive up and down the country with her ballroom gowns in a special suitcase.

Happy days, and there was always a little commentary about the couples...

"Frank is a plasterer and also likes to help his Dad on his allotment where they grow prize winning marrows. Gloria is an office receptionist, and her Mum makes all her dresses, her Auntie Doreen sews on all the sequins onto each dress."

TillyTrotter Sun 25-Oct-26 08:26:50

The ballroom dresses were full-skirted, layers of taffeta to give them shape when the ladies twirled.
My favourite section of the show was the Formation Team dances - do you remember those Spindrift?

I disagree about voting FGT.

You ask ‘is it a dance competition or an entertainment programme?’

Well, it’s both.

If you look at some of the past winners, it’s certainly not the best dancers who have won each time.

I look forward to the voting part, and for me, I vote for who I’ve enjoyed watching, despite the judges comments, (if I like their music, that helps).

You may find that the best dancers occasionally end up in the dance off, as everyone thinks ‘oh, they’ll get plenty of votes without mine’.

Plus some of the pros are more popular than others.

Love Emma's dress is lovely and she looks beautiful without overdoing make up ect unlike those so called celebs on the red carpet the other night.
She could present solo such a professional

Totally agree. I loved her black & white dress with spaghetti straps and her short bob tucked behind her ears looked fabulous. Dangly earrings complemented the look.
