This version is supposed to be nearer to the original books. I read the BBC article quoted by SD and the original TV programmes were definitely much darker. Have a read.

I won't watch it either it would spoil all my lovely memories of the original.

People misremember the original Little House tv programmes. They were much darker than our memories now tell us. www.bbc.co.uk/culture/article/20260701-the-original-tv-little-house-on-the-prairie-was-a-true-american-horror-story

My DDs loved the books and the show and they’ll be watching the new version. My favourite book was The Long Winter, I got it out of the library so many times!

I’ve read all the books. The Long Winter is good if you think you’re cold. Might be good for cooling down at the moment, too!

I haven’t got Netflix, and don’t think I’ll bother getting it for this.

Anne with an E was refreshingly good. A really well made remake.

Oh dear.

More "Mom and apple pie" plus God bless Uncle Sam and three cheers for The Land of The Free.

Thanks, Oreo I’ll investigate!

Smileless2012 Thu 09-Jul-26 13:07:14

Oh, I got really excited when I saw the thread title but like you Cossy I could never watch a remake. Somethings just can't be remade sad.

If you want something good to watch on Netflix, and very well acted and thought provoking you can’t do better than Midnight Mass.

merlotgran Thu 09-Jul-26 13:04:31

I liked Anne with an E as well.
Some remakes are terrible like A Woman of Substance so I have my fingers crossed for LHOTP.

Never saw the original but it sounds a bit saccharine to me.

Desdemona Thu 09-Jul-26 12:25:13

Will have a look.

So many old shows, films and songs get remade - sometimes they are better, sometimes worse.

Aveline Thu 09-Jul-26 12:09:07

Will definitely give it a go. Nice to have an alternative to sport to look forward to.

keepcalmandcavachon Thu 09-Jul-26 11:46:17

I'll give it a go. I'd thought like this about 'Anne With An E' after being a life long fan of the Megan Fellows version of Anne of Green Gables, but because it was so different it was easy to love too.

Cossy Thu 09-Jul-26 11:32:22

Oh no, I could never watch a remake of this particular programme.

I love Michael Landon and the actors who played his children!

How I loved this programme.

shysal Thu 09-Jul-26 11:28:12

I don't think I shall watch it because it could never live up to the original. Michael Landon was my teenage crush. I loved him in Little House and as Little Joe in Bonanza.

merlotgran Thu 09-Jul-26 11:23:55

The remake is out today. I won’t be able to resist a binge!

Hope it’s as good as the original.
