The šŸ˜‡and high 🐓 are out in force, saying why they will never watch let alone vote for GB News.
It’s fine, it doesn’t need you, it’s doing really well. However if you were to risk watching some breakfast tv you may change your tune.

This is not an award of which I have knowledge. Does anyone know how the nominees are decided?
My choice of news on television is Channel 4, and, occasionally, Sky News, but these do not appear to have been nominated.

CLG. RadioToday says there are longlists for all categories. 2026 was drawn up by a voting panel made up of companies from across the media sector, including Bauer Media, BBC Radio 2, Global, TiVo, Tubi and Sky Sports News. Then there’s a public vote for a month to whittle the longlists down to shortlists.

An eventual short list that arrives at four digital terrestrial news programmes, three of which are breakfast shows and one that goes out at 6:30 pm in the evening isn’t going to be representative of all viewers.

When I was working full time there would never have been time to watch TV in the morning and I was rarely home by 6:30pm to watch early evening news. News was something to watch at 9:00pm or 10:00pm to catch up on national and international events.

The 2025 nominees were:

BBC News at Six
GB News Breakfast
Good Morning Britain
ITV Evening News

2024:

BBC Breakfast
BBC News at Six
GB News Breakfast
Good Morning Britain

2023
Channel 4 News
GB News Breakfast
Good Morning Britain
ITV Evening News
Talk TV Breakfast Show

In the past there has been a News Presenter award. It was won by Farage twice, in 2023 and and 2024. He was nominated in 2025 but didn’t win. There doesn’t seem to have been a News Presenter award category this year which is odd.

I knew that Farage worked for GB News as it’s one of the many income streams he forgot to declare to Parliament but I didn’t know he was classed as a news presenter.

I have it on right now, love Patrick and Ellie .It’s a programme that’s gone from strength to strength in my view.
Something for everyone.
Anything popular always attracts the sneerers.

Just because we choose not to watch something doesn’t make people ā€œsneersā€.

I explained, in full, why I won’t watch this programme, without any sneering.

GB News is owned by All Perspectives Ltd. The channel is primarily funded through commercial equity investments, led by the British hedge fund tycoon Sir Paul Marshall and the Dubai-based investment firm Legatum.

Nigel Farage holds 500,000 shares in All Perspectives Ltd, the parent company of GB News. He increased his stake from 300,000 shares, and his holding includes voting rights.

It’s exactly why I don’t watch GB News.

I feel very strongly that it’s entirely wrong for the leader of a UK political party and serving MP to have involvement to this extent in our TV and media. Farage also is a paid contributor of both X and the Telegraph. He also owns his own media company.

For me, it’s too much of a conflict of interest and gives Farage far too much of a platform.

I’d feel this way about any UK serving MP, it’s simply not right, in my opinion.

It’s nothing to do with ā€œsneeringā€ and everything to do with my own moral compass and political beliefs.

Because the TRIC Awards rely entirely on public voting rather than a closed panel of judges, those channels with highly dedicated "fanbase"— like GB News— have a strong advantage in mobilizing their viewers to vote.

I've looked up how they do this and apparently, instead of largely leaving this to the marketing team (which the BBC does) they use their own airtime and newsletters etc to remind their viewers daily to cast their official vote. They remind us multiple times a day across every platform they own.

Presenters also give a "shout-out" to the awards at the start and end of major program segments, during "high-traffic" shows such as GB News Breakfast and during peak evening slots.

They also have one of those ticker strips along the bottom of the screen with the voting website details.

Anyone who subscribes to the newsletter also gets messages with links to the voting website.

And there's a big "stick it to the establishment" vote, encouraged by people doing pieces to camera on X and Instagram etc.

Here's one of Farage explicitly asking the viewer to "send them a message" by clicking the TRIC voting link. It's from a couple of years ago:

Hat's off to them. They get their supporters out in force.
This is how and why they win.
They are fantastic at pushing the need to vote.

Absolutely the best NEWS Program in the UK
I love it,love all the presenters, love the way they do present balanced opinions…
I’m quite surprised about some of the vitriol present on this thread (actually, no, I’m not at all surprised 😁)
I would not watch BBC News if you paid me, but I don’t go on and on about how terrible it is…

I didn't even know there was going to be a vote. Did anyone else ?

No I didn’t know. I suppose it will be for the GB members I would think.

Wrong, it’s for everyone to vote, other nominees were available including Good Morning Britain and BBC Breakfast .

tabbie Thu 25-Jun-26 09:38:37

Well done GB News.
I like it because it engages people.
It enriches our society to have a variety of opinions.

dragonfly46 Thu 25-Jun-26 09:32:27

I don’t watch very often but find it odd that their newsreaders and commentators frequently offer their own opinions.

Oreo Thu 25-Jun-26 09:23:33

And no Graphite I don’t fit your view of GB viewer in any way.

Am not going to dismiss this because I never watch it, but have heard it caters to those who lean further right so although I wouldn’t describe myself as particularly left wing it doesn’t sound like I would like it very much.
I tend to only ever watch BBC world news or Channel 4 news.

I’m a Labour voter and enjoy many programmes onGBNews particularly the morning ones, with either Patrick and Ellie or Anne Diamond.

JudyBloom Thu 25-Jun-26 09:16:07

I love Emily and Patrick, the darlings of GB News!

Exactly NS.

As far as I can see it isn’t News Channel it’s news programme.

Winners are decided by a public vote from a list of predetermined nominations within various categories.

ertonline.co.uk/news/tric-awards-2026-nominees-announced/

The nominees were:

9 – News

BBC Breakfast
GB News Breakfast
Good Morning Britain
ITV Evening News

I can’t find any specific numbers about how many people vote other than for 2025:

This year’s winners, from much-loved personalities to standout shows, were decided by a million votes from the British public.

Considering we have a population of around 70 million of whom around 56 million are adults in 29 million households it’s not hugely representative. Considering three of the four nominees were breakfast news, the voting is probably slanted toward people who don’t have to get up and out to work in the morning including a large number of older viewers. We know this is the demographic which supports Reform more than any other and that GB News is the TV propaganda channel for Reform.

Nice graphic here about how Victor Orban bankrolled the network around Reform including Paul Marshall’s media empire which owns GB News.

I don’t know anny about the background of GB news, who bank rolls it.
I would rather listen to that station in my car, than listen to a station that bank rolls child molesters.
That’s what put me off the bbc.
So I got rid of my tv licence.
I refuse to fund the likes of Hue Edwards.
