Did anyone watch this? I saw a trailer so thought I’d take a look and was surprised how watchable and emotional it was. Made me come over all patriotic 😊. I’m not a football fan particularly but found myself willing the team on. I’ve two more episodes to watch.

I watched episode 1 last night and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am usually scathing in biopic type dramas, but Joseph Fiennes is marvellous as Gareth Southgate.
I only wish ā€œBigā€ Sam Allerdyce had a larger role as he was hilarious, but that wouldn’t have been in keeping with the facts.

I saw the play of Dear England last year in London and really enjoyed it and I’m not a football fan . DH is though . Joseph Fiennes also played Gareth Southgate in the stage version .
I’ve watched the first episode and got quite nervous even though I knew outcome .

I don't like football, or most sports, but I watched Dear England because I remembered when the play was showing in London it got fantastic reviews.

I found it well acted and really quite moving.

We saw the play in Manchester ( I think) last year. It was very good, we enjoyed it. My DS saw it in London, with Joseph Fiennes, said he was excellent.
However the chap sitting next to us left at the interval, stating quite loudly, that he couldn't take any more of this rubbish! How odd, but each to his own.

We’re all different LindaPat. When I saw Book of Mormon , the couple next to us didn’t return after the interval .

I’m not keen on football at all but do like Joseph. Will give it a go.

Loved it!
Joseph Fiennes was totally credible as Gareth Southgate as were the other players/actors.
I bought tickets for this for my teenage grandsons just before the tour ended as I hoped it would speak to them
Does anybody remember the happy days of 2018 when England got their best World Cup result since 1966?

I was almost as tense and excited during the ā€œpenaltiesā€ scene in episode one as I would have been watching a real match, but I thought things started to go adrift in episode two. I’ll give it another try.

Just watched the last episode one of the best things I’ve seen for a long time. The casting was excellent each and everyone, I’d love of seen the stage play.

I’m not a football van either but I enjoyed every minute of this, it is about much more than football.

What a fascinating and enjoyable show. We really enjoyed it in our house. The editing between real life matches and drama was excellent. The TV critic in the Guardian thought Joeseph Fiennes' performance was a caricature but I don't see how you can portray a real person known to millions without copying their mannerisms. Brilliant story all round.

I was a bit surprised to see Commander Waterford managing the England team!
