Our song for Eurovision

Although I have zero interest in this competition, is it just me or does it seem bizarre that the song chosen to represent our country has the first three words in German?

On the nose means not in favour with the majority.

BlueBelle Wed 20-May-26 06:52:36

What’s that mean Nana8 ‘must be on the nose’ not a saying I m familiar with ?.

nanna8 Wed 20-May-26 04:53:29

It’s so political, not worth watching. The UK must be on the nose just now !

Didn’t Norway always come last at one point. I think that they considered it a point of honour.

It seems we have taken their place.

I hate Eurovision but I had seen the UK entry in the week running up to the final. Ridiculous song and dreadful lyrics. 'Eins, zwei, drei and a slice of pepperoni'. !!! No wonder it finished in last place. A total embarrassment.

I thought Malta gave us the point. The UK song and staging were clever enough, but they were never going to appeal to the Eurovision audience or judges.

I didn’t know it was on. How did we do?

Don't ask
😂😂😂

Oh heck, Lixy, oh don’t know why we bother.
Just watched our entry, rather crappy tbh.

Need you ask???? The usual I’m afraid.
Though Ukraine kindly gave us a point, so not the ‘nul points’ this year, just bottom of the table.

Maybe UK should have to go through the semi-final selection process in future years?

Cabowich Sun 17-May-26 15:51:05

The trouble with the UK entries are that they have no melody or decent tune.

I've just heard about the death of Dennis Locorriere (lead singer of Dr Hook) - now if songs like his were entered, we'd stand a much better chance.

I've just filled in the BBC complaints form because they haven't featured his death on the Culture part of the website. First World problems, eh?

GR206 Sun 17-May-26 15:49:23

I think it is now an absolutely laughable competition. All the phaff has nothing to do with singing or popular music. We are never going to win but we put a lot in to it. I wish the BBC would withdraw funding for it. Yes, I did like Terry and Graham's funny commentaries but it's just so political, it's not even a 'European' competition, so I have given up watching. I have better things to do! Sorry for moan grin

I didn’t watch but I believe Ukraine gave us a sympathetic one vote so we got a oner 🤣😱🤣😱🤣

I think nul points is better than 1!

It was dreadful. Felt sorry for the bloke but everything about it was appalling.

Don't feel sorry for him.

I thought Look Mum No Computer was the name of the song but apparently, it's his stage name, whoever he is.

Just an embarrassment all round.

It’s awful. No points. Not at all surprised.

merlotgran Sun 17-May-26 10:15:21

If we must take part I wish we could go back to the days when there was a public vote to choose the song we were going to enter.

We used to win! 🤷‍♀️

Silvergirl Sun 17-May-26 10:04:11

We deserved to come last. Four hours of my life I'll never get back. I never learn!

Oreo Sun 17-May-26 09:57:00

Italy, Israel and Australia had good songs. They came in the first five.

Oreo Sun 17-May-26 09:55:43

There are always politics involved of course, Terry Wogan used to laugh about it but when the UK has a cracking song by a good singer we still do well, Sam Ryder is an example of that.
We need to do much better than the rubbish put out by us last night.
Having said that, the rubbish put out by Bulgaria won the contest😂

TerriBull Sun 17-May-26 09:54:00

Oh yes she did, maybe there are a couple of others, but generally the winners are of the moment.

OldFrill Sun 17-May-26 09:51:47

I think Celine Dion did well as a Canadian singing and winning for Switzerland.

TerriBull Sun 17-May-26 09:46:33

I say this every year, why don't we withdraw from this farce given the voting is strategic and political. On the world stage of music, for a small country we punch well above our weight, we have massively left our mark, maybe a reason for being right at the bottom, as a country, musically we have achieved a level of success most of these countries could only dream about. I haven't heard the song so maybe coming last is justified. The only enduring talent to have come out of Eurovision were ABBA, years ago. Most acts sink without trace.

nanna8 Sun 17-May-26 09:40:32

Apparently SBS, one of our free broadcasters in Australia, is a member of the European Broadcasting Union. That’s the reason. Nuts. They broadcast things in many different languages from many different countries. I don’t think we are part of Europe.n

merlotgran Sun 17-May-26 09:31:07

I thought it was a catchy song as well and no worse than a lot of the others.
I thought either Italy or Israel would win.

Once again I went to bed muttering, ‘Why do I watch such crap?’ 😂
