I am just finishing watching a BBC2 programme on Miriam Margoyles.
Such a brilliant actor of course .... but the rest if it? What do people think?

Regardless of her language and crudeness, I have always liked her honesty and her naughty sense of humour and that she's growing old disgracefully. Like a previous poster mentioned I do wonder if a lot of the dislike of her being uncouth is down to her being an elder. To me, she's no worse than Adele who has a foul mouth and who doesn't care about youngsters being within earshot. MM always makes me laugh which is more that can be said for the Saturday night woke rubbish

Age has got nothing to do with it. I would find her antics revolting and coarse in anyone of any age, sex or gender.

Yuk.

Sorry cannot stand her! Intelligent and witty but I find her course and crude and always looks as if she needs a good wash!

mae13 Tue 14-Apr-26 20:33:24

She appears to have a minor obsession with commenting about farting and anything scatological. Why? Straightforward attention-seeking?

Oh yes she has made a lot of money from being boring.

I don’t find her in the slightest bit boring!

Miriam Margoyles is a highly intelligent and talented women.

She can act and has a great voice.
She also studied and received a. degree from Newnham College. Cambridge.

She also has lots of interesting and intelligent things to say and. talk about.

All this potty mouth and most of her celebrated foul bodily functions nonsense is part of her calculated brand.

She has got her schtick down to a fine art.

Schtick is a Yiddish word used to describe to adopt something memorable you can use. So that you are easy to remember by people and not forget

It has been used extensively over the years by Artists in Show Business.

Think Sandie Shaw with her bare feet. Gilbert Sylvan dressed.as a
child.

Miriam Marbles is very shrewd.

I love her, she's definitely my level of crude and vulgar... I know I'd have a brilliant time with her at a party.

Emeraldforest Tue 14-Apr-26 18:54:44

I'm the last person in the world to swear, but I love her uninhibitedness, she's a one off and a real character.

I just find her too repellent to watch in anything.

Me too. Revolting. Have to make one exception. Blackadder.

adrisco Tue 14-Apr-26 17:56:47

I really like her. Went to see her at a theatre in Manchester three years ago. Yes, she can be crude but she's warm, kind and very funny.

graciemabel Tue 14-Apr-26 17:42:53

She likes to shock people and wind them up for a reaction. Silly old biddy.

Such very 'English' reactions to a woman who went to Oxford High, Newnham College, Cambridge and who has led a witty, compassionate, successful life as comedian, actress and documentary maker. Still plenty about cocking their little finger lifting their tea cups and not noticing the poverty and shamefulness of the way the less fortunate are treated in the UK. Farting is a metaphor as well as a biological feature of being human, MM sees it and calls it out. Her series on Australia and NZ was very good but let's turn our noses up because she says what she sees happening in front of her and such honesty is unusual.

That is a daft post.
But purposely meant to ruffle feathers in its absurdity, I presume! 😂😂😂

Spot on Allira!

I think she shows contempt for others in not being prepared to modify her behaviour, but then she likes to shock just like many an immature 12 year old boy. As for the sexual abuse of a sound technician, she should be ashamed. Historical abuse is bringing many men to account, why should she be different. Surely not because she's a woman?

I agree.
As she is lesbian, it was probably done to humiliate rather than any other reason. Sir Tony Robinson said that she once tickled him in an inappropriate way too, although he wasn't particularly bothered, unlike someone young, inexperienced and perhaps just starting out in the business.

She is an odd mix of intelligent, kind, insightful yet crude and inappropriate at the same time.
Strange.

I like her. She is very kind and has the ability to read people. She reminds me of my late Grandmother, swore like a docker but was loved by many.

She is completely revolting and I avoid watching or listening to anything with her in it.

I think she's great, full of humanity & care for others. I don't mind swearing, in my utopia words now called swear words would be what they are, just other words.

My dad used to say to my mum 'you're just a guttersnipe you are!' That's real swearing/offensive in my book

MT62 Tue 14-Apr-26 16:41:04

Id rather hear a couple of Ffs ( if i have to) & less talk about ‘farting’, even the word makes me cringe I can’t do with toilet talk, Tbh.
Her partner must love her, I think they have been together fifty odd years.

MayBee70 Tue 14-Apr-26 16:37:31

I really like her; think she’s a thoroughly decent human being and seems to be very kind. But I do wish she’d rein in the crudities. Don’t know how she does so much with her health problems and weight. She seems to have far more energy than I have.

I'm afraid I agree with the majority here, I'm not keen on her either as an actress or on what she says. She may be an entirely different person face to face - but I doubt it!

She was face to face with people on The Graham Norton show, plus thousands watching the show where she very proudly boasted of a sexual encounter with 3 men, 2 of them complete strangers 🤬

FreedomAwaits Tue 14-Apr-26 16:10:10

I like her. Crude but honestly outspoken. There are so many tv channels these days that if people don’t like what’s on, they can turn over. Life too short to get upset about farting, peeing, stories about her lesbianism and sexual antics. There are plenty of male comedians/actors who speak of similar issues.

Me too! I switch channels if she's on TV!
