I watched this series based on the books of Marian Keyes, but was a wee bit disappointed. I see BBC listed it as a ‘comedy drama’, but, to me, the gentle comedy of the books was totally missing in this offering. I read that Marian Keyes had said it was like selling your house, as you didn’t know what the new owners would do with it, but I think these new owners definitely missed a trick, firstly by making Mammy Walsh a million miles away from the warm, ditsy character she is in the books, and also making Daddy Walsh’s character unrecognisable ( to me, anyway).
On its own it’s enjoyable enough, but I don’t think the style of it will appeal if you’re hoping for something true to the books.
