Sad to read that actress Catherine O’Hara has died aged 71. She was a wonderful performer. I watched Home Alone recently for the umpteenth time with my grandchildren.

My absolute favourite performance was as Moira Rose in the very funny series Schitt’s Creek . I’ve watched the entire series twice over and I love it.

For anyone who hasn’t watched Schitts Creek, Catherine’s fellow actor and the writer is Eugene Levy who interviewed Prince William recently, sharing a pint in a pub .
I think it was a frank and entertaining interview.

Eugene's children were in it too, Dan and Sarah. I think I'm going to watch it again..

Of course Dan was in National Lampoons Christmas Vacation too!

I'm a fan of Catherine too. Home Alone is a wonderful film.

I watched schitts creek during lockdown, the whole lot. It is funny and sweet in equal measure. I often feel like hiding in the wardrobe with Moira smile

Very sad. She was hugely talented. I can’t believe people haven’t even heard of her, must live with their heads in the sand. She looked very unwell at her last public appearance & apparently was receiving treatment for cancer.

Another fan of Catherine here 💔
71 seems very young to me.
May she rest in peace 💐

Mare of East Town, starring a world weary Kate Winslet in the title role. Highly recommended.

Yes I agree.

I am amazed at posters who have children and grandchildren not knowing her from Home Alone 🤷‍♀️

I personally do not know any young adults or children who haven’t seen any of the Alone films

Home Alone was quite a time ago, Macauley Culkin is an adult now.
Being a film for kids I didn’t see it, but in any case the name of the actress who played his Mother wouldn’t have stuck in my memory.

I did like her in Home Alone, she wore a wonderful coat when dashing around the airport.

I loved the premise of the Home Alones, they were amongst some of the films I actually enjoyed viewing at the cinema when my children were young. Very good inter-generational family entertainment rediscovered in our house recently, 3 generations of us after a late Christmas lunch, found ourselves slumped in the living room watching Home Alone 2. It had lost none of its original appeal.

Exactly the same here, still had a tear at the Bird Lady 😿

Were they on Netflix?
We don't have Netflix, perhaps that explains it!

It’s on Sky at the moment.

Was on Amazon Prime

Late Winslet is the lead actress, outstanding acting from her throughout the series.

Mare of East Town
Never heard of it although DIL did recommend Schitts Creek.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 31-Jan-26 10:45:33

I thought Schitts Creek along with Mare of East Town were compulsory viewing during lockdown 📺

Yes, such sad news….. I might have to watch Schitt’s Creek all over again in her honour flowers

TerriBull Sat 31-Jan-26 10:41:32

I did remember her as Kevin's mum in the Home Alone films. I didn't watch Schitts Creek but I gather she had a resurgence of her career in that.

I'm sorry to hear she's died, 71 isn't that old these days.
