Remember fan clubs?

How well I remember being chuffed to get a badge and letter from the Beatles’ fan club. Now, I have no idea if I paid anything ( postal order maybe?), but I do remember the stamped addressed envelope featuring, and we received things like innocent wee Q and As about their favourite ice cream etc.
Was anyone else a member, and are they still a thing?

Yes I still have my Tingha & Tucker membership badge!

Does anybody remember Dickie Valentine ? I got a (supposed) piece of his blue gaberdine suit, as "special" member of his fan club. Makes me cringe now, but then ... ah!

I was a huge beatles fan from 9 years old,(still am) i thought Ringo was amazeing. I still remember watching them land at Heathrow.
Didnt really no much about Fan Clubs.
But i did join the David Cassidy Fan Club,
Saw him at White City Stadium in 1974 ,i was 19.
Sadly it was the concert that the girl got crushed to death at the front.
Saw him when i was a lot older in 2008 at wembley.
David was and still is my favorite singer.

IIRC I was in the Elvis one when I was about 12. My mother laughed when she found out, which was mortifying. TBH I’d have preferred a Rowdy Yates (Rawhide) fan club but I don’t think there was one.

However I went right off Clint Eastwood around the time of 9/11 - when the big ‘tough guy’ cancelled a premiere in London because he was too scared to get on a plane. At around the same time dh and I flew the other way across the pond for a memorial showing of a couple of late BiL’s documentary films.

OMG yes! I well remember being a star-struck and love-struck kid and teen being a member of various fan clubs, excitedly waiting for the postie to bring me envelopes with posters, badges etc.

Great days!

I wasn't in the Beatles fan club, but when I started my paper round, I spent some of my money on the magazine from the paper shop. My friend's brother started a group, and we set up a fan club for him. Went to all their gigs? Some of the group went on to play in other bands. I found out he died a few years ago in his sixties. Not sure if there are still fan clubs. Those were the days.

Another Beatles Fan Club member here. I'd forgotten about the bendy records we were sent, but remember Beatles Monthly magazine.

There was an afternoon event for fan club members held at Wimbledon Palais that I attended - winter of 1963 I believe. It was the first time I saw them perform, and we all queued up to shake their hands after the performance. I was all a-quiver, and managed to tell George Harrison (my favourite) that he and I shared a birthday. "Happy birthday, love" he said - I nearly fainted on the spot and swore I wouldn't wash my hand ever again.

I was in the Duran Duran Fan Club.
Happy days! I don't know if there are still Fan Clubs these days. If there are, they are probably all online.

Oh dear, I was in the Bee Gees fan club in 1968. I got a membership card that said 'Bee Gee Bopper'. I was furious when my parents said I was too young to go to one of their performances!

Cateq- I was in David Cassidy fan club in his heyday when he'd just left the Partridge family- i went to the David Cassidy comeback concert in Blackpool, many years later with a newspaper group trip- we did'nt know it, but we were staying in same hotel as David, the Hilton, and he and his wife, and his manager walked in after the concert- myself & these 2 other ladies (a bit older than me i think) were sat chatting about the concert, and were surprised when they sat in the foyer too, i said "i'm going over to speak to him" but they did'nt dare- David was a lovely man, with time for his fans, we chatted a bit, & i told him my eldest daughter shared his birthday, which he seemed geniunely pleased to hear. After a few minutes we shook hands & i thanked him, gave him a little peck goodbye on the cheek. Those 2 other ladies were well envious, & wishing they had dared to go speak to him.😄

I was a fan of Billy Fury and Kenny Ball and was in their fan clubs. I got a monthly newsletter and the opportunity to buy tickets for their concerts.

I am still in the Elvis Presley fan club

I don't like to tell you this, but Elvis has left the building.

No, I wasn't in any fan clubs but I did see the Beatles.

Marg75 Sun 23-Mar-25 16:44:01

Adam Faith for me! Even won a very large photo of him from Valentine magazine. I've still got it, my Dad had it framed for me all those years ago

Lemontart Sun 23-Mar-25 16:21:39

I was in the ABBA fan club, the Dennis the Menace fan club ( and Gnasher's fang club) and The Desparate Dan Pie Eaters club.

Labradora Sun 23-Mar-25 16:20:19

And I was a member of the "Dr Kildare" fan club (gawd help me). I was only saying to my OH the other day that I really think that I really do remember a( quite glossy and professional ) fan magazine where the interviewed star Richard Chamberlain said of himself and of his co-star Raymond Massey that both of them "considered the human body inviolable... and both blanched at the sight of blood". Is this false memory syndrome ?
Why have I remembered this( if I have) when there are whole swathes of my actual life that I can't remember at all ???
Strewth.......

wibblywobblywobblebottom Sun 23-Mar-25 16:13:36

No.

Cateq Sun 23-Mar-25 15:59:45

Fails, I was in the Pinky and Perky fan club as a child. I was also a huge David Cassidy fan and got tickets for his show at Hampden Glasgow for my 15th birthday. My mums cousin wangled a meet and greet with him as a surprise, never washed my cheek where he’d kissed for days😂😂
