American Primeval is basically an extended version of The Revenant but even more violent!
I loved the British Primeval and have watched it all many times. Yet another show that has been cancelled, leaving us with a massive cliff hanger!
I can thoroughly recommend Under the Banner of Heaven. It is based on the true story of two Mormon brothers, Ron and Dan Lafferty who are involved in the murder of their sister in law and what evolves from that.
Thanks. I can’t get ITVX on my tv but can watch it on my iPad.

I had really enjoyed The English, so when a friend recommended American Primeval (with a warning about the violence) I watched it. Yes, @MayBee70, very gripping.
Something I was entirely surprised about was the Mormon involvement - I had previously thought they were a peaceful religious group just looking for a place to set up their Zion, not that there was aggression and a Militia!I absolutely loved American Primeval.
Another wonderful series which also features some history of the Mormons is Under The Banner of Heaven which I also highly recommend.
I think it's on Disney - if you have that.
It's based on the book by Jon Krakauer
Under The Banner Of Heaven is on ITVX, my son has recommended it to me but I am busy watching Endeavour at the moment.
Brutal, isn’t it? But a very good series
I don’t have Disney. But my son has and he’s staying with me at Easter. I’m still thinking about American Primeval ; it’s really stayed with me. I don’t really like love stories except when they slowly unfold without you noticing what’s happening (eg The English, Last of the Mohicans).

There was a warmth to the characters as the series went on. I found the camera angles interesting, too. When we used to play cowboys and Indians when we were kids I always wanted to be an Indian which is probably why I like series like this.
I know MayBee. I got the wrong genre completely! I don't mind gore, but I found it awfully bleak. My fault entirely
I did point out that it was very gory and similar to The Revenant...
You are right Oreo. I've stopped watching it because it is very depressing

I'm watching it now but it isn't what I thought it would be! I was thinking about the series about dinosaurs and this is definitely not that. 😂 It's very gory but I'm enjoying it so far
I enjoyed the British Primeval but American Primeval is a different beast😁
I watched a few episodes then ditched it as too depressing but good acting all round anyway.

I know somethings good when I realise I really care about some of the characters; they have become real to me. I don’t feel that about House of the Dragon ( other than, for some strange reason, Aegon
). And also when I find myself googling historic events that I realise I had no knowledge of. Annoyingly I couldn’t get the subtitles to work till part way through episode two, so I may have to rewatch episode one…although part of me feels that I need to move on from it. I was totally immersed and still am. The person who recommended it to me described it as ‘brutal’ and it certainly was. I do like series in which you think something predictable is about to happen and it wrong foots you. I need to rewatch The Revenant ( when I saw that at the cinema I spoke to someone who left at the same time and he said the book is different to the film and very good) and Slow West, a little known film of the same genre.

I'll have to watch it. My friend's son was in the British version but was 'killed off' quite quickly. 😂
Probably far too gory for most people to watch but I am very much Game of Thrones hardened so I was ok with it. By the same person who did The Revenant ( which I loved). I’ve just binge watched it as I’m at my daughter’s dog sitting and I don’t have Netflix at home. I was totally gripped and could barely watch the last episode as I’d grow so fond of some of the characters. Similar to The English ( but even more gory). Now got to return to House of the Dragon which I’m half way through.
