I have just seen that Rod Stewart is to play on the Legends stage at Glastonbury.

A definite watch for me. On the telly!! I'm nearly as old as Sir Rod!

It's someone's ability to hold the audience, rather than their voice, I think.
Rod definitely has "it".

I don't particularly care if they don't sound great. They, not Rod particularly, but others, are the soundtrack to my life.

And there are those of us who will watch regardless.

Oh yes 👍

He isn’t quite 80 yet!

When will Eric Clapton go on to the Legends' stage?

Kate1949 Thu 28-Nov-24 16:00:57

Because they want to and because people still want to see them.

Sorry but I think his voice has gone the same with Paul McCartney I don’t understand why they keep going when this happens, why don’t they go out on a good note instead of thinking they still sound good 50 years later I think it’s sad

One old rocker who still has ‘the’ voice is Robert Plant. Absolutely amazing.

He is - saw him with his Shape Shifters a few years ago, he sounded incredible. I love how his music has evolved but he's still great at the classic Zep songs.

As for Rod, saw him at the Crystal Palace Bowl in 1969 or 70, in his Faces pink suit days. Brilliant. (as were Pink Floyd!)

Loved Rod since my teens saw him in concert and he was an amazing

Quite, Kate. I'll be watching.

Thousands of people pay to see the. Why should they retire? The same goes for others like Paul McCartney. My nephews, who are in their 30s, desperately wanted to go but tickets sold out almost instantly. Doesn't that tell us something. My nephews just want to see a Beatle. They saw the (elderly!!) Rolling Stones a couple of years ago and were thrilled to do so.

I saw him onstage about five years ago when he came to Toronto. I really do like him but he didn’t have much stamina then - the show was ‘padded out’ …….supporting performers and his back up singers were very strong and a very talented group and literally carried him vocally during his two shorts sets that he performed. It’s such a shame that these icons of yester-year wear themselves out and show their vulnerability by not knowing when it’s time to gracefully step down from performing. But I do like his music but would never pay to see him perform live again.

I loved him in his hey day, which is how I’d like to remember him, not as an old man of 80 trying to recreate those days. Bit of a cringe for me.

Rod has been my pop hero for as long as I can remember, loved all his work over the years and the way his style has adapted. I saw him live in concert at York Race course a few years ago, he was clearly unwell and had a heavy cold, but it was a memorable night and he gave a fabulous performance. Would give my right arm to be at Glastonbury just for that Sunday afternoon!

I’ve been lucky enough to have seen Rod live on a few occasions. He may not be the best singer, but he’s a showman that entertains the audience.

I love his voice, it's quite gravelly but I think he's a really good singer.

So has mine kitty but he doesn't look as good as Rodders but then he doesn't have his money which I'm sure helps.

kittylester Wed 27-Nov-24 10:20:58

My almost 80 year old has matured well but his voice is rubbish.

Good choice for the Legend slot 👍

Yes, Bridie22, he certainly is, Go Rod, prove all the neah-sayers wrong. 😎

MissAdventure Wed 27-Nov-24 09:48:36

He looks better now than he did years ago,

Kate1949 Wed 27-Nov-24 09:46:54

I think Rod looks great. I don't know many almost 80 year old men who look that good.

Bridie22 Wed 27-Nov-24 09:34:19

Oh! Ladyleftfieldlover... my love for Robert Plant extends 50 years +, I still go to his concerts.
Lovely to find another Planty fan 👍

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

He can't even sing, looks a mess.
