Anyone watching Showtrial on BBC1 and iPlayer? It's a really good drama. All episodes are available and I'm on episode 2. Can envisage binge watching! smile

Thanks everyone, I somehow missed watching this but I will now.

Is it full of Asian/white/Chinese/Mongolian/alien actors?

I'm an old lovely and I don't understand anything about race and culture. But because I'm so old, I do understand about rudeness, patronisation and generally thick, ignorant know it alls. wink

I am definitely not looking to be offended, or am I offended.
I am merely pointing out that the days are gone when you see the colour of someone’s skin before you see that they are a barrister. Seems you old lovelies need educating hmm

How do you know where the person using the description hails from ? Just wondering. Very judgy of you, but I assume you are one of the somewhat deprived young ones that didn’t receive the same standard of education as us old lovelies. Never mind, you can study and maybe catch up given time.

I've rewatched series 1 of Show trial. What a brilliant series, the acting is superb and I was gripped even though I've seen it before! I hope series 2 is as good.

I close my eyes in the scary bits Sparklefizz 🤪

I love it, but once came downstairs because I couldn't sleep, watched an episode of Luther for something to do, and decided I would never sleep again 😂

Sparklefizz Thu 17-Oct-24 10:20:20

Oh thanks Doodledog - perhaps I'll give it a miss then. I don't want to have to sleep with the lights on grin

Doodledog Thu 17-Oct-24 09:44:03

Luther can be scary - be warned grin

Sparklefizz Thu 17-Oct-24 08:10:07

NanKate Thanks for mentioning the Luther series. I'm looking for something else to watch.

Lots of flooding in our town yesterday so I was stuck indoors. Binge watched “Cleddau” / S4C, in Welsh, with subtitles (on iPlayer). “Welsh noir” police series - pretty good, I thought.

I am rewatching the Luther series on BBC IPlayer with Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson. They are equally as gripping as Showtrial imo. No bad language just adrenaline pumping action.

Must go back to series one to refresh my memory as already hooked on series two!
Also binge watching “Industry” ! Not for everybody but I am enjoying series two 👍

They are completely different stories so no need to watch series one if you don’t want to, it is good though but not quite as good as series two. I intend to watch Industry next.

And you need a few lessons in good manners.

I actually think taking offence because someone identifies an Asian actor as an Asian actor, is unconscious bias. I expect he’d describe himself as an Asian actor. Nothing objectionable about being an Asian actor.

NanKate Tue 15-Oct-24 16:54:21

👍👍👍👍

Seems you need educating in ageism and non-patronising communication, dear.

I think it was really good but I found the main character, the dodgy policeman, to be a bit one-note and I didn't have that much doubt that his actions were intentional. I thought Adel Akhtar was brilliant though.

I thought this was a much better series than Those that Kill, which gripped me enough to get to the end but which had a very disappointing and confusing conclusion.

It’s never a sensible way to differentiate people by the colour of their skin. There are so many other ways of telling people apart
Deliberate racism maybe not, unconscious bias definitely. shock

rafichagran Mon 14-Oct-24 17:12:45

Ignore NanKate some people look to be offended.

NanKate Mon 14-Oct-24 16:32:37

Many thanks Doodledog.

Doodledog Mon 14-Oct-24 16:30:43

Of course you did't mean to give offence, NanKate.

Anyway, the barrister on the opposite side was white, so it was a sensible way to differentiate.

NanKate Mon 14-Oct-24 16:29:05

Thank you BlueBell as you can see I meant no offence, just praise for a great actor.

happyjo Mon 14-Oct-24 14:10:06

Pointing out someone’s race or culture when it isn’t relevant to the conversation can perpetuate that they are an outsider. When was the last time you described someone as white in the same context?

BlueBelle Mon 14-Oct-24 07:38:13

Nankate you said nothing wrong would you be have been jumped on if you said ‘Elvis Presley was a famous American singer ’

NanKate Mon 14-Oct-24 07:14:34

NanntC1 in no way am I racist and meant no offence to Adeel
Akhtar. I’m British, he is Asian, my daughter in law is Columbian, my niece is British/Italian, that’s all there is to it.
