I have a friend who's just like it and actually has a paddock and "room for a pony". She always reminds you of this, as well as her swimming pool and other luxury items. So now, Hyacinth makes me laugh more than ever.
I can watch Hyacinth again and again, never get tired of it. As GrannyIvy says, we all know a Hyacinth Bucket!
I used to like Butterflies when I was much younger, but not now . I see Ria now as just a silly clueless woman, and I get cross because neither her husband nor her layabout sons ever seem to lift a finger in the house. I find her sons amusing, though.
we both remembered it as being funny, but now it just seems silly
I think this applies to many old comedy shows. Used to love Bless This House, Man About The House, Till Death Us Do Part, On The Buses, Are You Being Served….
If I have ever caught any of them again, I wonder what I found funny.
Of their time, and we must have been easier to please back then.
I love Keeping up Appearances too and I also enjoy Butterflies. The episodes of Heartbeat and The Bill are also good to watch while I have my lunch. Those were the days!!!!
I watched all the episodes again when I was poorly earlier in the year and really enjoyed them laughing out loud. Really cheered me up! I think we all know a Hyasinth😂
My mother always loved Hyacinth, and yes she was very like her in some ways! My favourites were always Daisy and Onslow. They seemed to sum up the British marriage, Daisy trying to inject some romance and Onslow doing all he can to avoid it. My favourite line is Onslow "I'm sitting here completely surrounded by no beer"
I watched it with a friend the other night- we both remembered it as being funny, but now it seems just silly. We did agree though, that we still know people like Hyacinth and her husband. They wouldn't know it was about them!
