Anyone seen/liked Two Doors Down? Saw a couple of this series recently and thought it quite funny. Set in Scotland it features three households plus various friends and relatives as they gather in each others houses or gardens.Cringeworthy things are said😂
I love it. I didn’t find the final series quite as funny as the previous ones. I watched an episode last night from series 2. I think it was episode 4. Colin and Cathy invite his dad from his care home and throw a birthday party for him. The late Maurice Roëves plays the elderly dad.
Cathy is outrageously rude, inappropriate and very funny in this episode . She’s my favourite character. All the episodes are on BBC iplayer but not for sensitive ears 😀
No reason for anyone from Scotland to be offended by this comedy. Same as people from the Yorkshire dales aren't all like the characters in Emmerdale (thank goodness) and Londoners aren't all like those in Eastenders! It's fictional and makes good TV.
Just found it- its very tame, with stereotyped cast members. There's a Netflix series called Boomers of a similar ilk. I find that funnier, but I just find it weird that they assume all people over a certain age living such banal lives!
Love the relaxed neighbourhood. I have family similar to these characters. Their neighbourhood is friendly and all are kind in their own way. I England most neighbours are strangers and don’t talk. Give me neighbours like this programme. Life would never be dull. Thank you for those who write the programmes who must be keen people watchers and even mind readers. Love love love it. I also like RabC and anything from Glasgow. Their humour is phenomenal xx
Still Game is certainly on the top list as is Rab C and 2 Doors Down. The Scots certainly have the skill of laughing at themselves. The English don’t and the Americans just don’t seem to understand self humour. The Irish are a close second to the Scottish writers with Mrs Browns Boys and the Priests on Craggy Island (Sorry can’t recall the programme title) The Welsh just don’t have the self deprecation skill and there’s no humour - just predictable sketches. The Scot’s have my admiration xx
My dh got his cousin in California onto Still Game, Scots Squad and even Gary Tank Commander. It’s now regular event in Oakland that a few of his friends watch them together so they can understand Scottish people when they visit here.
Comedy is always so subjective that you'll get an array of comments. We've seen a few mins of 2DD here and there, and it seemed at best mildly amusing, and otherwise about as funny as root canal work without anaesthetic.

That’s a strong opinion to have about a programme you’ve only watched for a couple of mins. I suspect maybe you’re a secret fan 😆

Can’t agree that English people can’t laugh at themselves they must be the most self deprecating people in the world. Being a Scottish programme doesn’t matter, it could be set anywhere in Britain. I watched episode one and two on BBC Iplayer of series 1 last night, very funny where Christine and her daughter have the ceiling cave in and spend the night at the neighbours house. Comedy is subjective, so some will enjoy this and some won’t.
I’m Scottish and I love it. I’ve seen Elaine C Smith doing stand up and she is brilliant. Not heard of This country.
This Country is also really good, set in a small town in the Cotswolds about the lives of two young cousins as they rootle around town bored and looking for fun.Kerry is particularly awful but you feel sorry for her as she idolises her deadbeat Father who now has a new young family and cares nothing for his teenage daughter. The cousins rely on the vicar and he’s a Father figure for them both, but mainly they want him to give them lifts here there and everywhere.😄 The programme pretends to be a documentary about rural life for young people. It’s a bit like Last Of The Summer Wine in that the cousins kick around town bored and with little money, and nothing much happens. Watch it and see if you like it.
Love 2 doors down, reminds me a bit of The Royale family, Also love This Country. Has anyone watched the Irish comedy-The young Pretenders? I also think it is very funny, a bit crude/rude and sweary and a bit bizarre
Rewatched some of these the other night, strangely enough- the christmas episode where they all meet up in town christmas shopping and christine is treating them all to show her appreciation is lovely- and she gets her 'reward' for being nice, you could say, at the end.It makes you want to cheer for her.. Lovely and very touching- and what christmas is all about,The friendship, the unity, the love.
