Does anyone remember Sara & Hoppity? I loved this programme in the early 1960’s. I even called my first born Sara! I saw an old You Tube of this yesterday and oh my goodness I found it a bit creepy but at 5 years old I adored it and never forgotten it. Another favourite was Torchy the Battery Boy. How childrens TV has moved on! I enjoy Peppa Pig and Fireman Sam now watching them with my grandchildrenšŸ˜‚

Big chief Bilbo is getting kinda tough...
Not sure that would be appropriate now.

I remember Torchy the Battery Boy. Think he would look a bit clunky nowadays.

Also remember Four Feather Falls, a puppet western starring Tex Tucker. There was a song in it- ā€œBig chief friend of two gun Tex- Kai -I-kalamakula- cum a Kai aā€ or something similar!

My sister and I loved it!

Big Chief Caramacola! Loved Four Feather Falls.

Also Fireball XL5 had a great theme tune!

I've thought of some more - some later than others but helped by the fact I had younger siblings!

Thundercats
Muppet Babies
Snoopy and Friends
The Muppet Show

Whirligig with Humphrey Lestocq was my favourite when we first had a TV in the fifties. He was the stooge to the puppet Mr Turnip.

We didn’t have a tv until after I left home so I used to listen to Children’s Hour at 5 pm ( was it) every night
but I watched a lot with my children when they were little The clangers, Magic Roundabout, Crystal Tips and Alistair , sooty, the Wombles captain pugwash, Bill and Ben,

The biggest spotty dog you ever did see!

I remember at that time, my Mum commenting that Susan Hampshire was too grown-up to portray Katie Carr.

Mind you, think of the Railway Children, the female actors were young women.

I read the Katy books back to front and inside out, and over and over.
I didn't know it was on tv, though.

Same here. I only stopped reading Katy when I knew what the next sentence would be. Such wonderfully vivid characters - could they ever be adequately portrayed on screen?

I loved Rag Tag and Bobtail but Andy Pandy was favorite. I loved the Teddy. Wooden tops too with Spot the dog,
Never really like Muffin the Mule.

Oooh yes I forgot about Skippy ( the bush kangaroo) and Champion the Wonder Horse. I think Pinky and Perky, Tinga And Tucker … anyone? With Katy Kukaburra! and Bewitched and The Munsters were the first TV programmes I remember watching. There were many more family type programmes then too.

Freya5 Mon 26-Feb-24 20:37:41

I am of the age to remember, Billy Bunter, the Wooden tops, Andy Pandy, Watch with mother, Flowerpot Men, Champion the Wonder Horse, Rin Tin Tin . Lovely memories.

MissAdventure Mon 26-Feb-24 20:25:00

Bewitched was my favourite programme of all.
I loved Flipper, and Skippy.
Oh, and Casey Jones.

Granmarderby10 Mon 26-Feb-24 20:18:52

Definitely the Bash Street Kids 😺 and on TV I loved Andy Pandy and Little Weed not Bill n Ben though.

I think the Bash St kids and Minnie the Minx were in the Beano, MissAdventure. Desperate Dan and Dennis the Menace were in the Dandy?

MissAdventure Mon 26-Feb-24 19:39:35

Which comic had the Bash Street kids?
Desperate Dan?
Minnie the Minx, and Dennis the Menace?

Also ā€˜Billy Bunter’.

Wouldn’t be allowed now, talking about fat people and school bullying.
