Hi all

I recently had a hysterectomy and so I am recuperating and looking for a really good TV series to watch. I loved watching Last Tango in Halifax, The Split, Happy Valley, Call the Midwife and currently watching The Flood when its on. I love anything with Sarah Lancashire and Nicola Walker in. Any ideas?? Thank you for reading.

Free on IPlayer Silent Witness from the very first series. I think that makes 23 series. Also if you have a Netflix subscription the author Harlan Coben has five series of great detective thrillers. I wish you well wish your recovery. I’ve been down that road.

Trigger Point is fab if you like edge of your seat drama.

I'm enjoying :
Spooks
Hustle
Humans
But they are new to me as I didn't see them before .
Get Well soon .

Fool me Once. Netflix
The Night manager
Just started Expats on Apple TV 👍

Another recommendation for Detectorists, plus I’d suggest The Thief, his Wife, and the Canoe (ITVX).

True Love is excellent - not a romcom as the name might suggest but highly appropriate for those of us in our twilight years. Stars Lindsay Duncan and Clarke Peters, plus Sue Johnson, Phil Davis and Peter Egan. It's free to stream on Ch4. Enjoy!

Finders Keepers
TrueLove

When I was recuperating I watched Silent Witness from the beginning. A lot of old series can date very quickly but I found this wasn't the case with SW. It was also interesting to watch the changes in forensics.

Sarah Lancashire in Julia on NOW tv. So different from other roles but just the best. Binge watch 2 series - you will feel so much better

That’s quite a hard question to answer because you don’t say what you got available to watch things on live amazon Netflix paramount etc I could name loads but if you don’t have any of those or others then pointless mention them I watched the neighbours next door but then I like Sam lol having watched him in outlanders which is brilliant since lockdown Ive watched that much of different things that I probably wouldn’t have given two though about before and I’ve enjoyed them so maybe watch something out your comfort zone you might surprise yourself

Five Bedrooms was really good. An Australian series, which, I think, was on BBC. The first series of The Missing was particularly good. Also Fargo.

Try “Fool Me Once”, with the superb Joanna Lumley. An 8 episode series with incredible twists and turns that keeps you enthralled and you can binge watch on Netflix

If Detectorists is new to you, try an episode.

Thank you for all of your ideas. I will certainly see if I can find the Olive Kitteridge one, as I have read all of the books by Elizabeth Strout.

I’ve seen the Split and loved it. Also I will have a look at Julia with Sarah Lancashire.

Pinkcosmos, we get it free as well, but I think it’s a restricted service.

Avril1950 Mon 05-Feb-24 11:53:12

If you like Sarah Lancashire try ‘ Julia’. Two series have been on Sky Atlantic. Hopefully you could get them on Catch Up.
It is about Julia Child the TV cook

I am not keen on police dramas, anything with too much violence or science fiction. Therefore, the the series below are what I would suggest.

Virgin River on Netflix is easy watching.

Fisk is a great comedy set in Australia. It's about a small town lawyer. Also on Netflix

Dead to me is a comedy drama about two women who meet at a support group for widows. It is quite light hearted. Christina Applegate is the main actor. Also on Netflix.

I also recommend Dark which a German science fiction series. It has subtitles. Also Netflix

I have to say I am not on commission from Netflix grin

My SIL is hooked on Outlander which is a time travel drama set in Scotland. It is on my to be watched list

The new series of Interview with the Vampire on BBC iPlayer is fantastic - if you like that kind of thing. There is also a series called The Mayfair Witches which is also based on the Anne Rice books. I can't recommend as I haven't watched it yet.

I also fancy Lessons in Chemistry which has recently come out on Apple TV. The book was great. Unfortunately, we don't subscribe to Apple TV. Maybe I will do a months free trial and then cancel it grin

We have Sky TV and we have an app on it for ITVX. It is free to watch. I am not sure why we are not paying for it unless it is free with Sky

I finally got Netflix and binge watched The Lincoln Lawyer and loved it.

Littleannie Mon 05-Feb-24 11:26:21

For £5.99 a month you can have ITVX which has Britbox included. All the lovely old BBC and ITV programmes. The Jewel in the Crown, Larkrise to Candleford, All Creatures Great and Small original series. Hundreds of lovely things! There is no contract, so you can cancel whenever you want.

Sara1954

By chance I came across an adaptation of Olive Kitteridge, if you’re a fan of Elizabeth Strout, or even if you’re not, it’s an absolute treat.
I don’t very often get into anything on television, but I want to watch it again, it was lovely.

Yes that is very good. Frances McDormand plays OK.

Slightly wacky but engaging rom-com type series from Australia:

m.imdb.com/title/tt1530541/

Called "Offspring".

You "listen to her thoughts" and quickly accept it as part of the humour.

Currently watching Transatlantic

www.rottentomatoes.com/tv/transatlantic/s01

On-the-fluffy-fluffy side (so far) drama about the Emergency Rescue Committee in Marseilles, 1940 really fabulous costumes biglouis - with Schiaparelli type hats, glove dresses etc. Beautiful vehicles - set against the arrival of the Nazis...

NotSpaghetti Mon 05-Feb-24 07:29:20

Have you already watched the Fargo series?
We both liked those - not so much series 4 but recently finished series 5.
