I like to see inexperienced celebrities improving week by week, not stage school types showing off.

OK, I am ageist! My comment on an upper age limit was tongue in cheek, I know that's not going to happen. But I do wish that those of more mature years would avoid disporting themselves on the telly in the mistaken belief that being able to do the steps makes them a dancer worth watching. It doesn't. I am rather ancient myself, but as an ex dancer, I can't help but find oldies dancing just plain embarrassing. Sorry!

It’s just occurred to me that when the judges pick up on points like posture or footwork, how much of this is the celebrity’s fault if they are novices. Surely their professional partners should notice these points and correct them. For instance Nigel’s incorrect rise & fall in the Viennese waltz & Angela Rippon’s arms.

Old people dancing is not a good look.

I agree. You can have all the dance skills you like but stage school concentrates on your presentation and delivery. You are taught to smile and engage throughout your performance, if that's what the number requires. The audience has to feel your energy and enthusiasm.

It's no use saying 'ah but they've never done ballroom' - dance training gives them spatial awareness, body control, directional awareness, use of arms etc etc, so they have tremendous advantages. It's disingenuous to pretend otherwise.

It also means they are not self conscious about "acting sexy and sensual". I remember one celebrity (can't remember who) who said that she felt silly trying to act sexy in front of her husband and children in the audience. I could relate to that. Athletes, newsreaders, anyone who hasn't been to stage school, is going to feel like that.

Skate I agree with the first part of your post but the second part seems a bit ageist.

Where would you put the upper age limit? Angela Rippon can dance better than many others of her age and younger.
Once you start putting on limits because it’s not a good look there could be other dancers where not a good look would be equally applicable.

Also in the introductions at the start, when you see the celebrities with their professional partners, Ellie’s partner, can’t remember his name, looks to be clutching her breast!

The bits of guff are the equivalent of the advert breaks. Useful for visits to the loo or making tea/coffee/finding and opening a bottle of wine.

What I do hate are the bits, which will come a bit later I suspect, when they all start talking about their families. They all say pretty much the same thing and I find it so boring.

The sooner it returns to a one-evening show the better and the BBC will not be worried about moles.

I felt sorry for Les Dennis but he was the natural first selection.

I record the results show and just fast forward to the dance off. The pauses before announcing which dancers are safe are just ridiculous.

I know. It's madness ... especially when someone leaks the names of the couple who are evicted.

I wish they’d go back to the old format when both shows were broadcast on Saturday night. It’s no longer a secret that both shows are filmed on Saturday night yet they persist in trying to make us think otherwise. For example Angela S referring this evening to her dance “last night”. When in truth she’s referring to her dance from 1-2 hours ago.

I agree about Nancy Callistemon21. I’ve always enjoyed her dancing and choreography but she was destined for an early exit this time.

I watched with my teenage granddaughter last night and she asked me how old was Les. I had to google to check and was surprised when I read he was previously married to Amanda Holden. I’d forgotten all about that chapter in his life.

Oh yes, we remembered!
