That's a shame, I havn't watched it yet, though I intend to. I have always thought, however, from reading the books that Dalgleish himself was bit dreary.
Oh I enjoyed it. I love ‘period’ crime dramas, and think the lead plays it so well. I know it’s set in the 1970s and I love to see the clothes and homes replicated.
Totally agree Aveline. I decided to give it a go the other night, but it was totally boring. I managed, just about, to get to the end, but I didn’t bother the next night.
I had set the series to copy to the hard drive but after I watched the first episode I cancelled the rest. I am generally a fan of things set in the 60s and 70s but this was just boring.
I usually enjoy period dramas but somehow this story was just dreary. Too many characters? Too many that looked similar? Poor acting? I don't know. It just misfired somehow.
I haven't watched it recently, but I agree Aveline, boring dreary stuff. I believe there was a previous series with a different actor a while ago, I didn't like that either, put me off wanting to read the PD James books until I did try one, Devices and Desires, thought it was great and then read some more. The dramatisations really haven't done the books justice imo because they just aren't that dull.
We just watched it and rather enjoyed it.Said it made a change from fast paced and gritty detective series and was thoughtful and well acted.Love the period details too.But I like things like Line of Duty etc as well.
I’m afraid I agree; it’s very dreary. Much preferred Roy Marsden as Dalgleish. The only weapon in Bertie Carvell’s armoury appears to be the hard stare!
I have read every book and loved them but this was really boring and so slow that even I could follow it!! I also got muddled up with the characters as a few looked the same-dull and dreary.
I may give next week's another go- there is not a lot else for me to watch.
